Really what is the point of HSE reported case numbers at this stage? I’m hearing public health people the last week saying that judging by rates of presentation to GPs and EDs, case undereporting is anything up to 70%. So its more like 50,000 cases today. Nothing undermines a message worse than bad data, just focus on the hospital numbers at this point, at least they have some basis.

The figures are very heartening when we consider what that the true daily case numbers are likely multiples of what’s being reported and that half of those in hospital are admitted for other reasons as opposed to as a result of Covid. The hosputalisation rate is clearly very low.

@Sorcha Ní Shúilleabháin: Health Workers have asked the Government to consider reintroducing the use of masks in certain circumstances to inhibit the spread of latest version of Covid. They are overwhelmed in hospitals at the moment.
