At least two killed in Tel Aviv attack

There’s a surge of violence in Israel and the West Bank since late March.

AT LEAST TWO people were killed and several wounded during an attack in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, a hospital said.

It is the latest incident among a surge of violence in Israel and the West Bank since late March.

“So far, 10 wounded have arrived at the trauma room of Ichilov Hospital. But unfortunately, despite the doctors’ efforts, two of the wounded died,” Ichilov Hospital said in a statement.

It said four of those wounded in the attack were in “critical condition” and undergoing surgery.

Two witnesses told AFP that they heard gunshots in the centre of Tel Aviv, where police said they were being deployed.

In a statement, they asked residents to stay inside during the incident “which is still ongoing.”

Eli Bin, head of the Magen David Adom emergency responders, initially told public TV broadcaster Kan that five people were wounded and one was “in a critical state”.

Outside a café where what appeared to be shattered glass carpeted the ground outside the entrance, a man comforted a woman sitting on a bar stool while police converged on the scene.

“It’s an atmosphere of war. Soldiers and police are everywhere… They searched the restaurant,” and people are crying, said Binyamin Blum who works in a restaurant near the scene of the attack.

Brenda Ehrlich, aged 31, an insurance agent from the Tel Aviv suburb of Holon, told AFP she heard about the attack as she rode a bus into the city to celebrate a friend’s birthday.

The group sat indoors and Ehrlich said she felt “like I need to look in all directions to not be caught by surprise, as police hunted for suspects.

We were thinking of heading home but it feels a little dangerous so we might stay inside in Tel Aviv before we go home.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was at army headquarters in the coastal city where he was receiving updates on this, the fourth attack in just over two weeks in Israel.

On 29 March a Palestinian gunman opened fire with an M-16 assault rifle in Bnei Brak, a mostly Jewish Orthodox city near Tel Aviv.

He killed two Ukrainian men and two Israeli civilians. An Arab-Israeli officer died of wounds sustained in the ensuing gunfight that also killed the assailant.

Two days earlier “terrorists” opened fire and killed two police officers in the northern city of Hadera before officers shot the assailants dead, police said.

On 22 March a convicted Islamic State group sympathiser killed four Israelis in a stabbing and car-ramming spree in the southern city of Beersheba.

Does Nicola Sturgeon have no shame?! Appearing with an EU and Scottish flag while calling for another highly divisive independence referendum, on the day the result is announced while declaring Scots to be morally superior to the rest of the UK.

There’s enough problems to be sorted out in Scotland without another year of the distractions another referendum will bring. Get back to actually governing Scotland so the Scots can judge accordingly what independence under the SNP would look like.

Nicola Sturgeon has every right to call for another referendum as the Scotts voted to stay within the UK because of economic stability. 62% of Scotts voted to stay within the EU and that should be respected. How hyprcrital of the English to cry about the EU being a dictatorship when they to do the exact same thing to the Scotts.

In fairness Tina, the Scottish people had their day in 2014 and they voted to remain in the UK. That means putting up with the decisions that the British people as a whole make. It was clear in 2014 that the political winds were dragging the UK towards a potential Brexit.

It does come off as a bit of a ‘toys out of the pram’ move so soon after the Brexit referendum. Especially as they only voted to remain 2 years ago.

I fully support their desire for sovereignty but maybe announcing this immediately after the results was a politically inept move.

@Jason, the Scots voted to stay within the UK on the basis of the slogan “better together”, and they also have the right to another referendum, as they only voted to stay on the caveat that the UK as whole stays in the EU, this has changed now, and with Scotland and Northern Ireland hugely in favour of “remain”, don’t be surprised if Scotland votes for independence and the North for getting rid of the border.

I dont think so Jason, 62% cannot be swept aside. That is exactly why they wanted independance from UK in the first place because they were never listened too. They want economic stability and all the leading economist around the world say the road to recovery will be arduous. This is a new world, with new economies and I am sorry to say the UK on its own would not fair so well. And lastlu do you think this divorce from the EU will amicable? There was a reason why Nicola kept harping on about Scotland being inclusive. It is the reason why Cameroon has resigned, a storm is brewing and it will noy be pretty.

All well and good Tina, but it won’t happen. Also 2 in 5 Scots voted to leave the EU, their voice cannot be trample on either, and that’s exactly what Sturgeon is doing.

But to be honest I hope they push for another referendum if only because the “White Paper on Independence” is going to make for absolutely tragic reading once the 2013 oil price which the paper is based on is replaced with the 2016 oil price. Stick that into the calculator and we may as well start calling Edinburgh “New Caracas”!

As I said Tina, I do agree with the reasoning for Scotland looking for another referendum and I support their moves to pull away from the UK. I’m merely pointing out that it was fairly obvious at the time that the UK was drifting towards a vote on pulling out of the UK so the Scottish voters knew that this moment had a chance of happening.

They had their chance 2 years ago and they rejected it. Declaring moves for another referendum on the day of these results is pretty premature given the fact that it’s unknown what direction negotiations with the EU will take.

What does Britain have that makes it superior economically? They dont even speak a second langauge like the rest of the other European nations? And if the Scotts leave they are well and truly done. Not really Google, his plan was very clear. He told the British people that he was going to get them a ‘better deal’ when it came to the EU. It would then be put to the people to decide whether the EU’s concessions were enough to keep the UK as a member of the EU.

Obviously he failed to win the people over and they felt that the EU wasn’t worth it. To a large degree they are right. While the economic benefits of the EU are undeniable, we had the same benefits as members of the EEC with nowhere near as much political interference. Nowadays German parliament members seeing the Irish budget before TD’s do or EU ‘oversight’ of forced Greek employment law reform is considered normal.

The EU isn’t worth such blatant infringements on the sovereignty and democratic rights of the member states.

wrong, long after colonialism, Britain had a better economy because of it’s financial acumen and promoting entrepreneurial spirit. Britain had given up most of it’s colonial territories, and btw it took a lot of investment in time, talented people, business management to get many of those territories ordered and up and running, a proof of this is the devastation and mismanagement these colonies are now in, and also why Africans are flooding here to get out of their own countries.

As for speaking a 2nd language, they do, it’s called the language of business, and most of the world speak English and trade in English. I see you seem to be of African origin, yet here you are in an English speaking country, speaking English. Point proved.

In case you hadn’t noticed, Tina and I were discussing about British economics, she brought up that it was based on land they owned abroad, as well as them not “even speaking a 2nd language” ( a comment on their heritage which I note you do not call that racist, if I had said that about some African people, you would scream “wacist”)

The counter to Tina’s point is to show how Africa is now even worse off after colonialism and how millions of Africans are clamouring to get into UK and EU, her own case of being here in Ireland proves my point, that is all, Larissa, what is your hysterical problem with that factual point…..pure idiocy.

@Steveocarrol so the UK will be great because of ‘financial acumen’? Are they the only ones on this planet to have this? When i resources, I mean tangible resources. Its been less than 24 hours they have dropped from 5th to 6th in the world greatest economies. And yes I have African heritage, I speak 3 languages which is rather employable skill to have in this economy. And fyi, the Brits did not leave their colonies in peace but that is besidea the point. Nigeria is doing quite well if you disregard the usuall corruption. Gaining independance was the best to ever happen to that country, especially since its only been independent for around 60 years. Progress takes time and the fact many nations are investing billions in Africa is a testament to Africa’s bright future. Greater Empires fall and it seems the United Kingdom has fallen due to populist stupidity. And lastly one the US is the richest country in the world and huge part of that weath is due to multiculturalism. Thats is why so many people emigrate there.

We were talking about Britain and it’s finances and economy. And yes if a country has better business acumen than the EU then it will be better than the EU. If a country economy is great, it is precisely because of it’s acumen in that area.

You derided UK for speaking 1 language, yet that did not stop them from reaching 5th economy in the world, so your point there is wrong. Indeed the very fact you speak 3 languages is actually due to colonialism. Britain leaving it’s colonies meant the former warring tribes went back to tearing the hell out of each other again. Hence the trouble.

If Nigeria is doing quite well, which I am sure it is, then why are they coming in their floods to Europe? It means saying they are asylum seekers is bogus when there are safe prosperous areas in Nigeria to move to.

To say UK has fallen in 1 day due to a vote, is what is both populist and stupid. U.S is one of the richest countries in the world due to Euro-Americans intelligence which has seen the vast majority of inventions and entrepreneurship come from them. Every field of endeavour has been led and driven by them. In fact in cities where there is majority non-white like Detroit, they resemble the 3rd world.

@Barry, there’s no reason that Britain can’t adopt the Norwegian model, but the problem is, they would then again join the European common market, something the majority of the English have rejected with their Brexit vote, Out is out. And with Northern Ireland and Scotland now potentially set to leave the union, all you have left is England and Wales, hardly the world’s 5th biggest economy, also, look where the British economy was before they joined the EU.

Being a large organisation isn’t what’s killing the EU, it’s their dream of a federal European superstate and their willingness to trample on the democratic rights of citizens to achieve it that’s the problem.

The EEC, which Ireland and the UK voted to join, was all about free trade and free movement of people for the economic betterment of Europe. That is what we bought into, not an attempt to make a United States of Europe with Germany in the drivers seat.

In a world with large power blocks dominating, USA, Russia, China, India etc.

Europe needs cohesion, and integration in order to compete and influence the world.

The days of small petty states fragmenting europe are numbered……a well organised federal system with defence and foreign polices is what the world and europe need.

The petty nationalism that dominated the debate and the rise of the right in Europe is understandable but disgusting, and against everyones interests in Europe.

European ideals and values, and what europe stands for is a beacon for the world.

It is light years ahead of the States and anywhere else, in environment, human rights, principles of food quality, and consumer and data protection.

Europe does not need integration, not by a long shot. The US has created a powerful trading bloc in North America similar to the EEC without forcing Canada and Mexico into a federal union. China is leading the same efforts in Asia.

All we needed to prosper and compete with other major nations was the EEC. Everything beyond that has done nothing but harm European co-operation and economic development.

I think people believe whatever plausible sounding arguments back up the position they’ve already taken. The economic elite backed the UK joining the Exchange Rate Mechanism. It was a disaster for the British economy. When Britain left it, they called it Black Wednesday and regarded it as a catastrophe. There followed a boom in the UK while the rest of Europe stagnated. Britain was going to be lost outside the Eurozone – how did that work out?

The Leave camp have their own share of nonsense, but frankly if you’re taking your economics from the likes of the FT, you need a history lesson.

—”And the people did not want migrant rape mobs in their streets and Muslim massacres in their pubs. They were tired of Afghani migrants living in posh homes with their four wives while they worked hard and sick of seeing their daughters passed around by “Asian” cabbies from Pakistan in ways utterly indistinguishable from the ISIS slave trade while the police looked the other way so as not to appear racist. And, most of all, they were sick of the entire Eurocratic establishment that let it all happen.—”

Put in simple terms, as the pound looses value then exports become cheaper, this means more being sold which in turn means more profits and more jobs. This means then more tax being collected and this then means the U.K. Government doesn’t need to borrow money internationally then and when the government isn’t borrowing money then they can get rid of austerity but then the IMF would have less control over what the government does then I suppose???

Neither the Isle of Man, nor the Channel Islands are in the EU, they are crown dependencies of the Queen, and therefore have some kind of special status, as far as I know

Thanks for that. I had forgotten the significance of them being Crown Dependencies.

In 10 years time, many, if theyre still in it, will be dead envious of the UK. They’ll want their own currency back, their own rules. This was never going to work. Bringing Turkey and Merkel into it, just topped it off.

This ain’t Greece or Portugal we’re talking about, or any of the Eastern Bloc countries, this is a very strong economy we’re talking about and the rest of them left in the cess pit are just panicking that a good piece of gravy train has been cut off. We could do with the same blood and courage.

Ah the scram for Irish Passports, or even UK ones, they’ve got 1-2 years there. Couldn’t be up to them. Watch the space and limit it because we could have our resources overloaded ten fold over the next 2 years. That is a problem. Housing crisis here now? Nothing like what’s coming. Serious problem if things aren’t belted up.

Such a bad day for capitalism. Never a change from the cushy camp. The people who spoke are the hardest hit, the old and weak. You can call them wasters, or dole leechers if you care to generalise just as you care to generalise every Leave voter as somehow xenophobic from your cushy armchair. Then spout on about helping the poor and the homeless. Hypocrites. This is what happens when a boat is overloaded with unneccesary strain on a countries resources. Then again, if all is cushy, good job, home, you may never get how desperate the conditions are out there for people having to put up with it.

In the past, we’d hear, don’t blame us (the immigrants) blame your government, well they have done it and voted to leave, now the leave voters are being blamed when you should really be turning your bile towards the new government just as you’ve dictated to the people in the past when it suited.

All this talk about the NHS to be privatised if they left, hold on, Ireland is in the EU and we’re still trying to keep the dogs away from taking from our water. Thats a lie. In fact, remaining in the EU under their rules, leaves your countries resources more at risk of privatisation and TTIP as we have all seen and have YET to be given a referendum. The EU is corrupt and don’t let these politicians and bankers feed you with lies.

The best decision they ever made. Pity the liberals are hell bent on the immigration/racist accusations yet try to say, “ah thats just a smoke screen” whats the reality then? stay under capitalism? Hypocrites.

I am really happy i met Cindy because i met two people before her and they took my money not knowing that they were scams. But am happy now. Cindy sent the card through DHL and i got it in two days. Get one from her now. she is giving it out to help people even if it is illegal but it helps a lot and no one ever gets caught. cindy’s email address is (cindytedder767@yahoo.com)

And so it begins ..news now that the “Iron Bank of Braavos ” Morgan Stanley will move 2,000 staff to Dublin. Get Building more Offices and Homes for the rest of London City workers.
