Man arrested after Gardaí seize an estimated €1.75m worth of cocaine in Dublin

Gardaí stopped a vehicle on St Cuthberts Road and found 35kg of cocaine in it.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man and seized cocaine worth an estimated €1.75 million following an operation in Clondalkin yesterday.

At around 5.30pm, Gardaí stopped a vehicle on St Cuthberts Road and conducted a search of it.

During the search, 25kg of cocaine was found in the vehicle.

All of the suspected drugs will not be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A man in his 30s has been arrested in relation to this incident and is currently detained under the provisions of Section of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Clondalkin Garda Station.

This seizure is part of An Garda Síochána’s ‘Operation Tara’ – an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris last year.

The focus of Operation Tara is to dismantle and prosecute drug-traffickers’ networks on a national and international level.

It baffles me as to how the Gardai can congratulate themselves for shutting down the Kinahan shop when it was the US Govt who did what the Gardai should have done years ago. We all know where the ‘hotspots’ are but why these areas are not blitzed is beyond belief. When Drew Harris cannot even sack an unfit member of the Gardai, it says it all

@Barrycelona: They get rid of one bad bunch and they are soon replaced by an even worse bunch. Legalization of drugs is probably the best way to go. The money spent on the “War on Drugs” could then be turned to rehab facilities and education. The Gardai for their part are simply overwhelmed at this point and the temptation for riches on the part of the drug dealers is simply too great.

Looks like they got the street value wrong 36 kg is worth way more than 1.75 million. 36 ounces in a kg . An ounce goes for roughly 2 grand. 36×2000×25=2,520,000 euro. If they brought it down to street level smaller amounts you could double it to over 5 million. The guards usually exaggerate. Strange.
