Dublin architect firm to represent Ireland at the Venice Biennale

Dublin-based architects Heneghan Peng are to represent Ireland at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition at the prestigious Venice Biennale.

DUBLIN-BASED ARCHITECTS Heneghan Peng are to represent Ireland at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition at the prestigious Venice Biennale.

The exhibition, entitled Shifting Ground, is one of 56 national pavilions confirmed for one of the world’s most important architectural showcases. At the heart of the exhibit is the idea that contemporary Irish architecture has a “global identity bound up in transnational collaborations”.

Coordinated for Ireland by Commissioner Elizabeth Francis and curated by John McLaughlin, Shifting Ground asks
 “how

global
 architecture
 is
 grounded
 culturally,
 philosophically
 and
 spatially and how
can
it
situate
itself
outside
 of
 shared
national
 reference
points”. The
Pavilion
of
Ireland
 will be

composed
of
a
series
of
wall
 drawings
 and
 a
 12-metre long bench constructed
 of
 six interconnected
 sections
 for
 resting.

Heneghan Peng, currently working in three continents, are the architects responsible for the new Giant’s Causeway Visitors’ Centre in Antrim, a bridge at the London Olympics, and the new Museum at the Pyramids in Egypt.

Furthermore, although Heneghan Peng will officially represent Ireland at Venice delegation, four more Irish architects will also be featured at Biennale. Grafton Architects and O’Donnell + Tuomey were chosen by the Director of the Biennale to feature in the exhibition’s notable international curator’s programme; Clancy Moore Architects are to be included in the Backstage Architecture exhibition and book; and Boyd Cody Architects are to be among the Greek and international practices invited to contribute to the Greek Pavilion.

The 13th International Architecture Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia opens to the public on 29 August 2012 and continues until 25 November 2012. For more details please visit www.shiftingground.ie

Michael, drug cartels are so powerful because of US drug use, US war on drugs is a joke, calling Mexicans ‘a horrible lot’ is rather simplistic view

Micheal two young mexicans are dead because of the illegal drugs industry, because they may have used their rights to freedom of speech (a right upheld in the constitutions of many countries) to speak out against drug cartels. Are they part of the horrible lot too?The drugs industry is an international one it doesn’t follow borders, it just follows supply and demand.

I’ve been meeting so many people facing these kinds of threats every day at the Frontline Human Rights Defenders Platform in Dublin Castle this week. 130 incredibly brave people from 85 countries being threatened for standing up for their basic rights. Its shocking to hear stories like this one. Can you imagine actually facing that fear every day but continuing to fight for the right thing despite it? And what if you had kids? Massive respect to the journalists who fight back. Rant over. If you guys interested in reading more about them, visit http://www.frontlinehumanrights.org

There was a great show on last week where that sas guy chris Ryan teamed up with the special police there ‘bope’. Incredible stuff seeing the conditions in the favelas. The place is overrun with drugs and crime. Remember last year when hundreds of cops raided the place and arrested hundreds?
Scary stuff if they are turning to killing those using social media and reporters

My bad mad durdu. I made a mistake.
I ain’t a clown though. I wouldn’t say murderers, they are going in dealing with serious criminals and drug cartels.
