@GClare: Good stuff, GC, glad you’re getting to go for a break after 6 years! And glad that it’s affordable for you cause of friends/family. Have had to rely on those for breaks in the past myself.

With the prices of hotels and everything else here, you’re as best off getting 5 days in the sun as opposed to 2 days here. It’s a no brainer.

Italian and Spanish tourists often come to Ireland to savour the Wild Atlantic air, taste the uncontaminated seafood and grass-fed beef & lamb, and to escape the maddening Mediterranean summer heat. They find Irish restaurant and hotel prices too high, however.

If you’re thinking of booking Car Hire, don’t bother. Crazy expensive across Europe. Twice and sometime three times the rate of Pre Covid rates, and that’s without putting a drop of Petrol in the blooming thing….

@Sea__Point: Best bet is book locally when you get there, much cheaper, €60/ day with insurance. Just inspect the hell out of the car take the pre pictures, I dropped the car back to them in the evening and picked up again in the morning because I read that keying of cars was common overnight and reviewers suspected the rental companies. Also easier that finding or paying for parking.

@Pat Ryan: I will add to the local aspect, we are just bk from spain :( and before we went we had the option to bk our taxi to take us to hotel #35 quid. We didnt bother, got cab outside airport @22 quid. So buyer beware. U will get cheaper if u choose local.

@Eddie O’Neill: No not as bad …went through on the bank holiday weekend. My son works in the bar in Terminal One…said its manic in there…they open at 4.30am and there is often a queue at that hour..but getting through security seems to be a bit faster…just give yourself plenty of time.
