IRELAND’S BROOKE SCULLION is out of the running for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest final after failing to qualify from tonight’s second semi-final.
The Derry singer failed to finish in the top ten in tonight’s heat in Turin after the jury and viewer votes were tallied.
Ireland’s entry had been all-but-written-off by the bookies this year, but it had been hoped the 23-year-old’s confident performance – alongside some pyrotechnic staging – might be enough to seal a place in Saturday’s decider.
The last Irish contestant to make it to the contest final was Ryan O’Shaughnessy in 2018.
Our last top ten finish was back in 2011 when Jedward’s Lipstick made it to 8th place in the final.
The 20 qualifying contestants from the two semi-finals will take to the stage again at the PalaOlimpico venue this weekend alongside the ‘Big Five’ nations of the UK, Italy, Spain, Germany and France who automatically get a bye into the final.

Overwhelming favourites Ukraine were among the qualifiers from Tuesday’s contest – making the grade alongside Switzerland, Armenia, Iceland, Lithuania, Portugal, Greece, Moldova, the Netherlands and Norway.

I also agree with others who said Australia shouldn’t have a place. It was a novelty that one year, but cop on now.

I wasn’t a big fan of our song but there were very few performances worthy of a vote tonight at all so really surprised we didn’t manage to get through this year. But is it better to just get knocked out now rather than end up at the bottom on Saturday….. Probably! Maybe we should take a couple of years off so they can miss us!!

People act like De Valera giving his to Germany after Hitler’s death was the worst thing Dev ever did, and is constantly held over Ireland for it like a scarlet letter. Hmmm…. just watched on youtube… Not to take anything away from her performance, but there was something off about the production. The music seemed to be in the background rather than accompanying her. And the song was a fairly bog standard pop song, as usual…. it still feels like the Louis Walshes are in charge, afraid to take a risk and trying to appeal to the average voter with an average chart type song rather than taking a risk and creating something great.
Compared it to Finland, Serbia and Estonia, all of whom qualified. Not sure about Serbia but the difference between Finland / Estonia, compared to Ireland, I can see how Ireland didn’t qualify.
It’s not like we’re not capable, we just don’t seem to want to or have the confidence to go for it.

@Dave Harris: Well depends on the quality and potential. Look at last year’s winner… Eurovision catapulted and launched Måneskin’s success, they broke into the US market and now have a US tour. Same can be said for launching ABBA’s global career, and Loreen (Euphoria) went 9 times platinum, and of course Celine Dion went on to become a mega star (she won Eurovison in Dublin back in the 80`s, she was relatively unknown at the time). There’s always opportunity for success, but for sure it requires serious talent and quality songs. Eurovision as whole needs a shake-up and reform to restore to a “singing contest”.

Shocking stuff was like a night in Fibbers in Parnell Street .
Song was not great tbh was trying to pander to a niche that did not want it. Ireland need to go back to drawing board on how song singer selection is done. Used to be commercially established singers and song Witter that wrote a song that wa not trying to pander to what a selected group of People thought was what a select group of people wanted. It used to be a pop type song that could be played and was in Ireland and across Europe Wether it won or not. We have people and acts like Hozier Dermot Kennedy,Gavin James u2, and world renowned song writers and lyricists why do we start use them and make about good commercially viable song which win lose or draw still being played in 20 years times. we haven’t done that in a long time which is why we dont get anywhere. Worked for Italy last year.

Get your money on Ukraine
Sadly, the Irish entry never had a chance of going through. The writing already on the wall before she even sang! The Eurovison Betting Odds had the song slated at 300/1 earlier in week, at bottom of ranks. The European bookies gets the rankings fairly accurate every year, which is why Ukraine are favourites. The betting odds I guess uses lots of sources; song plays, social media trends, polls etc.. In earlier OGAE Fan Polls , Ireland was placed 35th of 40 in the Euro Jury poll, which includes jury and fan votes. The reality, as a lone island, Ireland needs an exceptional world-class hit in order to sway voters, we don’t have the luxury of easy neighbour points. Ukraine will be the likely winner as an act of support and solidarity for the war in Ukraine, the song itself is a weak entry.

To be honest it is the first time I’ve seen it in years and I thought it was a gay/ transgender/ competition the worst ever but fair play to Brooks she was good.

Not the greatest song but she gave a good performance and I actually thought the crowd liked her. At least we don’t pay to put on the show and we are not as stupid as are next door neighbours who actually pay to run it even though they’re slapped every year. Some brilliant songs got through but some absolute rubbish as well I knew we wouldn’t win but I really did think she would make the final.

Ah here it was dreadful. How it was actually picked on the Late Late is beyond me. We have sent seriously sub standard entrants for the last number of years embarrassing a country which has a vast musical talent. The only reason I can see for it is that we can’t afford to hold. So either pull out or use proper talent. Stop selecting second rate acts and using them as scapegoats.

Gosh darn it
It’s almost impossible for us to qualify. None of our neighbouring countries were showing it on their tvs because they weren’t in it and none of them were voting either. So, we have nowhere to get traditional votes from. UK, France, Germany, Spain were not involved last night.
