@Ciarán O’ Donoghue: they were open. People brought up the fact that she has a history of not paying rent (€12k arrears on €63 a week rent to a housing Charity) which may contributed to her current situation.

@Daniel O’Connor: to be fair a single wage of €101k is a decent wage, But in the context of a single income family of 7, maybe 8 people it’s not near as good as everyone makes out. Al that aside she made an extremely bad error of judgement to expect sympathy from the general public

It wasn’t that long ago (20/30 years) when you would see a guard walking the streets on any given night. Sadly it’s not the case any more. What hope have the suburbs and elsewhere got when they can’t police the main thoroughfares.

@Sean Mullen: i think it is being a bit exaggerated tbh, The likes of prendeville and pj coogan would make you think it’s like downtown fallujah the way they go on, keep those listeners and clicks flooding in, I don’t think it’s especially rougher than it used to be 5-10 years ago. People are more inclined to film things though.

@Jim Buckley Barrett: Not a place to go anymore. The amount of violence in Cork streets has increased. You cannot walk the streets without been stopped and asked for money. As you say, the Guards cannot be everywhere but there are none on the beat around the town. A lot of their work is taken up with admin now I believe.
