A US CONGRESSWOMAN was thanking former president Donald Trump for his role in the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade when she said the decision was a “victory for white life”.
Mary Miller of Illinois was speaking at a rally last night with the former president when she made the comments. Her spokesman subsequently said it was a mistake and she meant to say “right to life”.
The line as it was delivered was out of step with the disproportionate impact the repeal of abortion rights will have on women of colour.
Ms Miller is running for re-election in the state’s newly redrawn 15th Congressional District against Republican Rodney Davis with the former president’s blessing.
She had been invited on stage to speak by Trump, who held the rally in Mendon, Illinois, to turn out the vote ahead of the state’s primary on Tuesday.
“President Trump, on behalf of all the MAGA patriots in America, I want to thank you for the historic victory for white life in the Supreme Court yesterday,” she said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Miller spokesman’s Isaiah Wartman told The Associated Press that it was “a mix-up of words”.
“You can clearly see in the video… she’s looking at her papers and looking at her speech,” Mr Wartman said.
Her campaign noted that she is the grandmother of several non-white grandchildren.
The congresswoman, who was among those who voted to overturn the results of the 2020 election, previously came under criticism for quoting Adolf Hitler.
“Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future,’” Ms Miller said in a speech last year, according to video posted by WCIA-TV. She later apologised after Democrats in Illinois called for her resignation.
The rally came as some elements of the far right have pushed the great replacement theory, a racist ideology that alleges white people and their influence are being replaced by people of colour.
Proponents blame both immigration as well as demographic changes, including white birth rates.
During the rally, Trump took a victory lap for the Supreme Court’s bombshell ruling on Friday ending the constitutional right to abortion. The three conservative justices he appointed all voted in favour.
He noted that in 2016, he promised to appoint judges who opposed abortion rights.
“Yesterday the court handed down a victory for the Constitution, a victory for the rule of law, and above all, a victory for life,” he told the crowd, which broke into a chant of “Thank you Trump!”.
Trump at the rally also endorsed Republican Darren Bailey, who is running to become the party’s nominee for governor.

They blame immigration but don’t realize that their ancestors are most likely not native either.
@Hans Vos: You go back far enough and follow the prevailing science on the matter no one is a native as our oldest ancestors emerged out of Africa and their may have been many waves of immigration to the American continent over thousands of years through means such as movement over ice sheets.
@v39e84kK: not having that Dominic. We piece together our ancestors here. Newgrange is 5000 year old. Where they came from is something we may know but not in any way something we are in touch with. North America is different. 120 years ago or 4 to 5 generations ago what was done to the indigenous people was genocide by people that may still be in family photos somewhere. I can remember my great grandmother who was born in the 1800s. If you are white with a German or Irish name it’s more than likely your ancestors went to North america after 1840 which is not long at all and makes you a descendant of immigrants.
How dare these people then propagate any sort of 1 upmanship or discrimination against other immigrants or minorities.

@hard yaka: Somewhat true. Latest genetic research is indicating that most of our ancestry arrived in Ireland after Newgrange, possibly with the arrival of the Celts. We also have significant portions of our ancestry from Vikings, Normans, English, Scots and Welsh over the millenia since as well as a small amount from French, Spanish, Germans and Jews. Small but probably enough that every Irish person a couple of generations ago had at least some ancestry from all of those sources.
Once again America thanks a step backwards. It is by far the most divided and confused nation.
How do they reconcile their right to life stance while also supporting the death penalty and selling AK47s to anyone who wants one.

Gilead comes to mind, i wonder what the politicians / judges who wanted the ban would do if god forbid their daughter, wife, sister etc was to become pregnant through rape or had a life threatening outcome for the mother or a baby who will not survive birth or the baby will be severely disabled, what will the they do then. Will they force them to continue with pregnancy. Its great to sit in your ivory tower n dish out these laws but untill you’re in the distressing position of an unwanted pregnancy or in some cases a very wanted one but to be told the devastating news your baby will have severe disability and will not survive birth. You can’t comprehend the pain these women go through

@antisocialbarber: Maybe she’s that dumb. If it’s all a conspiracy to increase the white percentage then one look at the statistics on who is aborting babies would tell them it is disproportionately minorities, particularly black people. Most likely strongly correlated with poverty.
@v39e84kK: Those minority women are also dying from their pregnancies. 47 per 100,000 as opposed to less than 5 here. And they are also the women who already end up criminalised by their pregnancy. Something that’s going to grow exponentially in those primitive red states now. Nothing wrong with celebrating all races, white life should be celebrated with hashtags and flags just as much as BLM.
