Two women and man released from garda custody following arrests over €72k cocaine seizure

More than €10,000 in cash was seized at one location.

TWO WOMEN AND a man who were arrested yesterday in connection with a cocaine and cash seizure have been released without charge.

As part of Operation Tara, gardaí yesterday seized approximately €72,500 worth of cocaine and €10,265 in cash, following a search operation in Galway.

Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit searched a house in the Headford Road area of Galway city. During the course of this search €9,500 cocaine and €10,265 cash was seized.

Gardaí arrested a woman in her 30s at the scene.

A second search was conducted at a residence in Menlo, Galway, where cocaine worth €63,000 was recovered. A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were arrested in relation to this seizure.

Gardaí said files are now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing.

I always read the label for country of origin but now it appears I’ve been wasting my time.
How can I support Irish jobs in the Irish agri-sector if I can’t trust the label or butcher.
It should be a very serious offence to mislabel or misrepresent the origin of a food product and they should include fines and/or prison for those caught.

Irish meat is the best in the world, and it is worth ensuring that meat is Irish. Currently restaurants and butchers are guilty of not always providing Irish pork and poultry. Very ofter it is the supermarkets who are taking a lead here. Bring on the changes in April I’d say.

Painfully stupid attitude. Irish meat is a highly valued commodity worldwide, carrying a premium price because of this. If a product is advertised as such, it is legally obliged to be as advertised. How would you feel if you thought you were drinking an expensive craft beer and paying a high price for it but in reality the barman was just selling you Carling in a different glass for a higher price? Because that analogy is about right.

I read the labels but from what we read we are being misled. I want labels that state it was born in Ireland, reared in Ireland and slaughtered in Ireland. this produced in Vietnam, sent to Ireland where it was butchered and labelled as Irish must stop. If it comes from Vietnam it needs to be labelled as such and then I can make a choice. Standards in Ireland are higher and that needs to be differentiated.

It’s either Irish born or not. If it is Irish born then a special logo should be on the packaging. Butchers should have a laminated list of their farm suppliers and what products they supply displayed prominently in the shop.

All meat comes from animals which have experienced fear, pain, unimaginable suffering, and no doubt a dash of intentional cruelty mixed in with them losing their lives so you can have a meal. The recent public outcry over the ‘pig on a spit’ in the Stephen’s Green shopping centre highlights the absolute detachment people have when it comes to the decomposing flesh on their plates. I would never hurt or cause pain to another living being, and I wouldn’t pay somebody else to do so either…. Meat eaters do so everyday. Remember that all meat comes from an animal which didn’t want to die.

I think you need to look up the definition of decomposing. Meat is not decomposing unless it has started to rot. If a human consumes rotting meat then they will likely become ill, as our digestive system is not equipped to process it. Using emotive and fallacious language such as this does more harm than good to your argument.

If you have ever been on an Irish farm, which I doubt as such a sanctimonious attitude can only come from a privileged city dweller who is totally disconnected from the realities of nature, you would know that free range Irish animals live a much happier life, given food, shelter and protection from predation, than they would in the wild. I have never met a farmer in my life who is intentionally cruel to his animals, it makes no sense to do so as a well treated animal leads to a higher quality product and a higher market price.

Stopped reading the lables years ago, when it first came out it was good. but since then the wording has been slowly “upgraded” to make you think you know where it’s from and it has actually got to the point that it’s used as an advertisment now (and we all know adverts lie)
I find that most “Irish” products are only Irish now because it’s sold in an Irish shop (and now even half of them arn’t Irish either).
