Poll: Have you watched an Irish-produced film in the last year?

One Irish language film could be on track for an Academy Award.

IT HAS BEEN a rough time for the Irish film industry over the last two-and-a-half years.

The pandemic stalled filming for many for long periods of time and access to funding was also limited. But art always finds a way and Irish writers, directors and actors have still managed to produce some knock-out movies, against the odds.

Today it was announced that the Irish language film An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) will be submitted as Ireland’s entry to the Oscars Best International Feature Film category.

Other Irish productions such as Joyride, starring Olivia Coleman, Young Plato, a documentary set in a primary school in Belfast’s Ardoyne, horror film You Are Not My Mother and Foschadh, another Irish language film, have also been receiving attention.

So this morning we want to know: Have you watched an Irish-produced film in the last year?

@John O’Driscoll: that’s exactly what we need and there should be more of a push to get this introduced. .I don’t get why people don’t carry a donor card or don’t wish to be a donor …

I remember many years ago Larry Hagman was on the late late show (possibly with pat Kenny) and he was really pushing for organ donation. One lady said she felt she had to be buried with her organs, that it would be weird otherwise, they were hers and Larry came out with the best point ever. He said that she’d be dead what use would they be in the ground! He also asked her if she needed an organ would she go on a transplant list, of course she said yes. He said well unfortunately someone would have to die for you too live, do you still think being buried with your organs is a good idea. I’ve expressed my wishes of organ donation with my family and medical teams. Even if they can’t donate them to someone for whatever reason, take them for research and maybe they could discover something different to help others. If I ever needed to be a living donor I’d have no problem doing that
