Bear the dog after being rescued by the Irish Coast Guard Pat Flynn/Doolin Coast Guard

Dog rescued after falling from cliff near Doolin in Co Clare

Cliffs in the area are as high as 22 metres in places.

A DOG THAT fell from a cliff in north Co Clare this afternoon has been rescued from the sea by Irish Coast Guard volunteers.

The alarm was raised at around 4.30pm when the dog’s owners called emergency services reporting that their pet had fallen from the cliff at Trá Lathan near Doolin.

Cliffs in the area are as high as 22 metres in places.

Volunteers from the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard launched their D-class rescue boat and travelled to the scene a short distance from their station. Other members travelled to the location by road.

With persons on the cliff-top guiding volunteers to the location, the Coast Guard crew located the dog at Poulnagower and took it on board their boat and back to Doolin Pier to be reunited with its owner.

The dog, named Bear, escaped serious injury while it’s understood its owners were visiting the area from Co Galway.

The successful rescue effort was mounted and coordinated by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue sub centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.

In other news, today’s cattle kill in Ireland was 8,000. Probably 18000 sheep and 25000 pigs and 100000 chickens.

@Ollie O’Cleirigh: All those animals you list only exist because of the food chain. Do you think there would be fields of cows if there was no return on them. The reason they have life in the first place is because of their final purpose.

@Denis Ryan: Ever heard of dairy cows? or wool? animals could be utilized without being killed. Although that said most dairy cows hooked up to those barbaric machines may as well be dead. Industrial farming is a disgustingly cruel practice, who gives a F about how much meat you want for your dinner

@Pauline Gallagher: Can be used for dairy and then complains about the method for capturing said dairy. So they wouldn’t exist again if you got your way. You are all over the place, take a deep breath and come up with a cohesive argument.

@Denis Ryan: Im talking about industrial not small farms where cows can be milked without machinery. Obviously, your artery clogging steaks are more important to you than living feeling animals. Animals exist just for food? Go away

@Pauline Gallagher: Classy lady, used in f word in your first reply and now on about my arteries. Domesticated farm animal do indeed exist for food, well pointed out. No small holdings these days milk by hand. Clueless.Had a quick look at your Facebook, seems lonely lady syndrome is at play in your reactions.
