@Chris OB: well they are hardly law abiding tax payers nor their parents now are they? They are sxxm of the earth and deserve to be made a example of. The guards should be armed because if those guards had left their car they would have been beaten to a pulp. Today’s youths have no fear of anyone, we should put the word RESPECT back into policing. reduce their social welfare, have curfews in place and kick them out of the social estates, I could not care less what happens to them or their uneducated sxxm inbred families

@Ger Byrne: 1). Most people commenting here weren’t joy riders in their teens. 2). The mere fact that you’re essentially defending their behaviour as “two bumps” and “not one sided” speaks volumes about your attitude and mentality. 3). The odd comma and full stop wouldn’t have gone astray.

@Patricia Ellis Dunne: it’s that type of view that keeps everyone against each other rehabilitate them give them something positive to focus on I know there’s always a few that will always cause trouble but the majority are just trying to fit in so the majority will turn out to be decent members of society and I live in a area where this has been going on since the 80s so I’m not condoning it but I also have seen most of the ones in my area grow up get jobs and now have their own families and would be among the first to critise this type of behaviour

@Ger Byrne: there are Garda/youth activities in Ballyfermot & have been for years and it has helped. They have loads of amenities too including all-weather pitches, swimming pool, parks etc.
Some years ago a community Garda had his jaw broken by these types of lads and a female member was deliberately knocked down by a stolen car driven by a 14 year old. He was out of youth detention before she had recovered from her injuries.

You think this is what Gardai should expect as they try to do their job?

I agree more long term plans need to be put in place but right now these s*umbags are going around burgling houses, robbing people’s cars & terrorising the community & being encouraged by their pals. They need to be stopped before someone gets killed.

@Dave D: definitely a few of them need to be punished and hopefully rehabilitation and I know for sure that most people of ballyfermot are sick of it but let’s not give up on them unfortunately some will not change but there’s a lot of them will I just don’t agree with giving up on them at such a young age but I also understand the frustration of the 99percent of good people in your area and mine and other areas that have similar problems

@Ger Byrne: You have the same attitude as that judge Nolan, see the good in the worst of people. These families are pure evil, this case made international headlines. Reduce their dole, (or their families) put curfews in place, call in the army and allow the guards get heavy handed with them. The liberal leftist approach has been tried and tested. it has failed. look at how Spain, Poland, Hungary handle these youths and the word LAW and ORDER means something. Our government is not authoritarian enough on these ferals. They shouldn’t bite the hand that feeds them because it’s certainly not their parents doing the parenting

@Alan Richard Scott Jr.: let me just point out that judge Martin Nolan is very soft on disgusting cases and I have female family so don’t ever think I am anything like that fella or agree with him all I’m trying to say is that lads and lassies from the age of 13 are being blamed cmon let’s look at reality for every 10 involved 9 of them will go on to live decent lives with decent families and won’t want their kids involved in the same carry on unfortunately the odd few won’t break out from it and more people will grow to do the same give them positive alternatives and you will get different results and as for the so called ramming it was 2 bumps that the 2 female officer’s have been given time off with full salaries if only all employees were given that leeway
