Investigations into death of 11-year-old Tullamore girl continue

Gardaí are waiting to talk with the mother of the young girl but she remains in hospital.

GARDAÍ IN OFFALY investigating the death of an 11-year-old girl on Saturday night are waiting to interview her mother who remains in a local hospital.

Post mortem examinations have been concluded on the girl’s body but “inconclusive” results were returned. Gardaí now wait on toxicology reports to garner more clues into how the child died.

It is understood that the girl was wheelchair-bound and suffered from multiple physical and mental disabilities.

The Offaly town was shocked by the tragedy at the weekend after the body was discovered just after 9pm on Saturday night at Bachelor’s Walk. An ambulance attended the scene but the little girl was pronounced dead at Midlands Regional Hospital a short time after arrival.

The girl’s mother – a 55-year-old woman who is understood to be a GP in the town – was also found unconscious in the house on Saturday night and brought with her daughter to the same hospital, where she is still being treated.

Detectives in Tullamore say they are not looking to interview anybody else in relation to the death.
