PARTING SHOT

river (9) Protests in Beirut on Wednesday, the day the Tánaiste arrived in Lebanon

Tánaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin has just paid a visit to Irish troops in Lebanon, just over a month since the soldiers lost one of their own.

On the trip, Martin said the first priority of government “is to protect our people here who are on this peacekeeping mission”.

But he told reporters after his day with Irish soldiers that the “environment and the climate has changed” in the region in recent times.

“There’s a political vacuum at the moment in the absence of the establishment of a government, a permanent government,” he said, which has resulted in what he described as an “intensity”.

Christina Finn reported on the visit.

This is probably my best Monday in a long time. Got up at 5am and went to the gym and had a nice breakfast. Feel great. Pity next time I do this will probably be the first day of 2016.

The amount of people who appeared to be relearning how to drive this morning on the M7/M9 was fairly disheartening.

The commute to work last week was lane-hog free.

Happy enough to be back, though was absolutely positive I had finally got over my office crush, only to see the person in question today, and automatically feel that weird dull ache in my heart. Damn you good-looking co-worker!
