THE REMAINS OF the 11-year-old girl who died in Tullamore at the weekend have been released to her family.
Gardaí confirmed that her body had been released to family, and said that her mother is still in intensive care in hospital.
It is expected that gardaí will interview the woman, who was named locally as GP Bernadette Scully, when she is in a condition to speak to them.
Locals were shocked at the weekend when the body of the girl, who it is understood was a wheelchair user and had mental and physical disabilities, was found at a home in Bachelor’s Walk just after 9pm on Saturday night.
Her mother was found unconscious in the same house and brought to hospital along with her daughter. Her daughter was pronounced dead at Midlands Regional Hospital shortly after arrival.
Detectives in Tullamore say they are not looking to interview anybody else in relation to the young girl’s death.
A post-mortem gave “inconclusive” results and gardaí are now waiting on toxicology results to try to determine how the girl died.
Today’s Irish Independent reports that Offaly County Council passed a motion of sympathy for the young girl at last night’s meeting.

knew what you meant…so they had to have a vote on whether to give sympathy or not,ridiculous!!
What a terrible story. The one good thing is Offaly county council having the guts to pass a motion of sympathy. I’m sure that means a lot to the people who are heartbroken by the tragedy!
