BAM CONTRACTORS, IRELAND’s largest public works construction company announced the launch of a recruitment campaign, seeking over 100 new employees including engineers, contracts managers and quantity surveyors.

The company said today it had a strong performance in 2011, generating turnover of €228 million with profit before tax of €4 million.

In a statement BAM said it recorded an operating profit of €5.2 million for 2011 and enjoys a “robust balance sheet” with no bank debt.

The company already employs 630 staff directly in Ireland, with a further 1,400 employed indirectly but is seeking an additional 100 staff for future projects.

BAM is currently working on projects such as the Sutherland School of Law in UCD and the Coleraine to Derry railway track upgrade as well as projects in Northern Ireland and Jordan.

Speaking today, Chief Executive of BAM, Theo Cullinane said the outlook for the 2012 financial year remains challenging but the company is confident it will continue to improve its position on the market.

“For next year, we predict enhanced opportunities in Ireland in public private partnership, healthcare, educational, pharmaceutical and foreign direct investment projects and BAM is well placed to win more of this business,” he said.

Cullinane said that although the company’s primary focus will always be the Irish market, it will also continue to pursue opportunities in international markets with some new positions listed in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
