VIDEO: What's happening with protests in Spain? Taiwanese animation explains it all

It’s a slightly surreal take on what’s happening across Spain.

IT BECAME FAMOUS for making its short and often surreal videos about world events from Ireland’s bailout to Tiger Woods’ affair.

Now the Taiwanese animation studio Next Media Animation has turned its attention to the mass protests across Spain as the government attempts to pass a major austerity budget.

As always, the video is a mixture of the overtly literal – a Spanish politician turns into an ostrich with his head in the ground while Austerity is portrayed as a Grim Reaper-type figure ordering Spain’s leaders to do its bidding – and some interesting analysis.

The studio makes the animated videos about news stories which may not have other footage available, which are then sold on to news agencies around the world and watched by tens of thousands of people on YouTube.

Actually, they have a full week off in early May for what they call Golden Week. As for the Cherry blossoms, they really make the most of them with families partying under the cherry blossom trees with great Japanese food, Sake and beer – all very well behaved and respectful, as is the Japanese way. It is a really unique country and I have had the pleasure of visiting there many times, Gambatte!
