Marine investigators gather in Cork to discuss marine crime

Drugs importation, forensic photography and accident reconstruction are all on the agenda.

MARINE INVESTIGATORS FROM around the world are gathering in Cork today for a conference on marine crime.

Members of the International Association of Marine Investigators will discuss issues including drugs importation, forensic photography and accident reconstruction at the 15th annual conference of the organisation.

The organisation was set up to examine high-profit low-risk marine crime.

Ireland has seen significant levels of marine-based crime in recent years. The Irish Naval Service has carried out 1,080 boardings of vessels in Irish waters so far this year and a total of 17 vessels have been detained.
