Rain. More rain. Cloud. Cold. Wrap up warm. Bring your umbrellas. Get a coat. Stay indoors. Abandon all hope.
But not today. Oh no.
Yes, it may be slightly chilly out there right now (12 degrees in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Donegal and a balmy 13 degrees in Kilkenny) but more importantly: IT IS NOT RAINING ANYWHERE IN IRELAND.
You heard us. Not a drop of rain, anywhere. We’ve included an image of it from Met Éireann’s rainfall radar below, just for posterity. You never know when this will happen again.

Now is a good time to buy shares in umbrella companies. due to the lack of rainfall across Ireland today. Low demand for umbrellas has sent shares tumbling to their lowest in decades.

I wouldn’t say it’s unprecedented:
In April of ’07 my wife and I were on our honeymoon in Ireland (from the US). It didn’t rain for two weeks. 74F at the Cliffs of Moher. Sunburned on the Burren. Then that pesky Icelandic volcano lit off. I’m sure you must remember.
We were so impressed with the weather we emigrated TO Ireland from the US.
Enjoying Howth for 3 weeks now. Of course, our expectations regarding the weather are tempered by reality now, but we really do enjoy these stunning days whenever they occur.

Lovely weather here in Cork today, just like it was on 19/09/12. That changed within a few hours and I think it had something to do with some of the many planes that passed by overhead in a short period of time, that day and a few times since then.
I’m delighted that it hasn’t rained too much since then, in Cork anyway, but I’m very aware that if we don’t get enough rain, we could be facing droughts like those in parts of America now.

If you’re looking for hard news then here’s the latest on the April Jones case, Joe Higgins distancing himself from Mick Wallace, Labour members calling for James Reilly’s resignation, an anti-abortion campaign being run by the Catholic Church, Obama’s fundraising for September, and a drugs seizure in Kildare.
