Luton's Lockyer 'stable' after cardiac arrest as Bournemouth clash abandoned

The player received medical attention on the pitch while both sets of players returned to the dressing room.

Updated at 18.16

LUTON TOWN’S Tom Lockyer was in a “stable” condition in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest that led to his side’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth being abandoned on Saturday.

With the score level at 1-1 in the 59th minute, Lockyer suddenly fell to the turf in a worrying scene.

Play was paused as the Luton defender received treatment from medics while both sides were sent to the dressing room.

Lockyer was eventually stretchered off, surrounded by the medical team, and taken immediately to hospital.

There was a standing ovation from the crowd, with fans in the Vitality Stadium chanting Lockyer’s name.

“Our medical staff have confirmed that Tom Lockyer suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher,” Luton said in a statement.

“He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides.

“Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support, concern and loving messages for Locks.”

Around half an hour after the incident, referee Simon Hooper confirmed the game would not restart on Saturday.

Players from both sides returned to the pitch and applauded the crowd.

Lockyer also collapsed during Luton’s Championship play-off final win against Coventry at Wembley in May.

The Wales international was taken to hospital and later underwent heart surgery.

The 29-year-old had an operation to correct an atrial fibrillation, a condition the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) describes as causing “an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate”.

Lockyer returned to action for the start of Luton’s first season in the top flight for 31 years.

He had made 15 appearances so far in all competitions before Saturday’s match.

Lockyer could now face a battle to resume his career after the latest health scare.

A statement from the Premier League read: “The Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town FC has been abandoned due to a player medical incident.

“Our thoughts are with Tom Lockyer and all players involved in today’s match.”

The Wales national team posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Our thoughts are with Tom Lockyer”.

@Setanta O’Toole: Call me what you want. It needs to be recognised that the ‘Safe and Effective ‘ vaccine causes Myocarditis- it is noted in the safety studies.

@Jessica Dwane: i will, ghoul. You don’t even know if has the vaccine or not. Look up the likelihood of contracting myocarditis post covid infection versus post vaccination. The answers may surprise and dissapoint you.

@Setanta O’Toole: you didn’t cite anything. Maybe you should cite CSO mortality figures for 2020, 2021 & 2022.

@pat mcgovern: there was no vaccine available for 99.9% of 2020, genius. As for the other two years, nothing to do with the ongoing pandemic, thousands of missed cancer consultations and diagnoses, lack of mixing in general leading to increased susceptibility to respiratory infections, and a general increase in the population over 65. No, none of that, just exactly what you want it to be to confirm your biases.

@Jessica Dwane: Viruses have caused myocarditis for as long as we know anything about viruses, and the Covid virus is not any different. Covid is one of the viruses that can cause myocarditis. There was myocarditis before Covid, there will be myocarditis after Covid. Heart issues are more likely to arise from Covid-19 viral infection than from the vaccines. A 2023 peer-reviewed study in the international scientific journal Biomedicines noted that the rate of someone receiving a Covid-19 vaccine and then having myocarditis is 30 out of 100,000, or 0.03%.

Take it up with the CSO you halfwit.
I’m sure they’d appreciate your insights.

    CSO all cause mortality figures:

    2020 – 31,765 – Pandemic No Cure
    2021 – 33,055 – Cure Rollout
    2022 – 35,477 – More Cure

@Setanta O’Toole: reread your own first line.
“There was no vaccine available 99.9% of 2020, genius”.
2020 was a normal year for mortality in Ireland. The shit hit the fan in 21 & 22, you know…when the cure arrived.

Look at the Basel healthcare study, 1 in 35 people were diagnosed with vaccine induced subclinical myocarditis after the fist booster. Those people need to be told not to exercise for a period of time or rhey risk heart attack and death. You can be as snide as you want but it doesn’t mean this isn’t happening. People are dying in large numbers and we need to find out why, it’s not a joke.

I’m restricted from linking it here but google if you want to read it “Open Access
Sex-specific differences in myocardial injury incidence after COVID-19 mRNA-1273 booster vaccination”

@Setanta O’Toole: You seem confident that the C19 injection has no side effects. You have a cosy position, maybe you didn’t experience any Ill effects after taking them, but many people did. Many people have had terrible side effects from these V’s, from heart issues to auto-immune issues, all gaslight by the medical industry that it was anything other than the V. My father died 48hrs after his booster. With any other novel medicine, any death within 28 days of administration would be deemed the cause of death, until proven otherwise. This didn’t happen in my father’s death. Why not? YOU Mr. O’Toole are the ghoul here. Not me.
