Poll: Have you planned any trips abroad for 2024?

Do you have any holidays booked?

AS WE APPROACH the end of 2023, many of us will be planning a holiday for next year.

While some people will be hoping to jet off somewhere abroad, others might be planning a staycation somewhere in Ireland.

The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC) estimates that €5.3 billion was spent in Ireland by international visitors in 2023.

While data for the domestic market has not been published yet, the ITIC believe it is marginally down on record 2022 levels.

So today, we’re asking: Have you planned any trips abroad for 2024?

Poll Results:

Yes, I've booked a holiday abroad (5093)
Not yet, but I intend to (4080)
No, and I don't intend to (1603)
No, but I'm planning a staycation (458)

@jak: €4.50 for a pint in my local, river running through it with a sauna and plunge pool, hydro bikes to rent, great for swimming, blackstairs mountains on the doorstep – great place to be. €10 per night for the campervans

There’s more to the country than Dublin – get out and explore it a bit.

@Wombleman: typical ‘there’s more to Ireland than dublin’. Comment……rural Ireland is as much a rip off as Dublin….That’s why most people don’t holiday in ireland(irish people don’t holiday in dublin)and there is more to a holiday than ‘4.50 for a pint’…..and fyi,I have paid 5 euro for a pint in dublin….. There’s more to Dublin than temple bar.

In general u can not afford an Irish holiday. But there are bargains if u could go at off peak times. But with school and work this not always possible. And the hotels know this. So we must go abroad especially with families. It’s robbery here.

Food and service is muck in Ireland for what’s being paid. Every establishment utilizing ramekins as portion control on dinner plates. Same menus everywhere, same kids menus everywhere. Everything heated or fried, McIreland more like …. cookie cutter from hotels to restaurants and pubs to deli’s. Boring!

@John Terry: Maybe you have trouble reading but I listed a whole heap of other things beside the pint.

In fact the only reason I mentioned the price of a pint at all is that the comment I responded to was complaining that it was €8 for a pint.

You can take your rant off with you, I would rather do 100 things than spend my holidays drinking.

Or in Dublin for that fact as it’s a kip.
