Two arrested in connection with fatal Cavan stabbing

A man in his 40s died after being stabbed at an apartment in Co Cavan over the weekend.

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing at an apartment in Co Cavan over the weekend.

A male in his 40s died after being stabbed at the location at Connolly Court on James Connolly Street at around 11pm on Saturday.

It is understood that the victim foreign national who had arrived in Ireland just a few days previously.

A post-mortem examination has now been completed.

A male aged in his 40s was arrested on Sunday evening in connection with the death and is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended at Cavan Garda station.

A second man, aged in his 30s, was arrested this morning.

Gardaí wish to appeal for witnesses who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious in or around Connolly Court apartments on Saturday between 10pm and 12 midnight or who may be able to assist with the investigation to contact Cavan Garda Station on 049-4368800, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
