Two people arrested after drugs and over €200,000 in cash seized in Co Laois

The follow-up searches were conducted as part of an operation on Tuesday, when Revenue seized €2.4 million worth of cannabis in Co Meath.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE been arrested after Gardaí seized over €200,000 in cash and drugs during a series of searches in Co Laois. 

The seizure, which took place yesterday, was made as a result of follow-up searches as part of an operation on Tuesday, when Revenue seized €2.4 million worth of cannabis in Co Meath.

During the course of the searches in Laois, officers in the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) seized over €200,000 in cash, €140,000 worth of suspected cannabis and €10,000 worth of suspected MDMA tablets.

A “substantial” amount of counterfeit prescription tablets were also seized, along with sophisticated illicit pill making facility, including a pill press, a garda spokesperson said

The items will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for further examination.

A man, aged in his 50s, and a woman, aged in her 40s, were arrested. Both are being held at a garda station in Co Laois under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

The two men arrested in connection with the €2.4 million cannabis seizure remain in custody at a garda station in Co Meath.

A garda spokesperson said that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
