'Fix Your Street' website to be rolled out nationally by end of year

The website allowing people to report graffiti, leaks, litter, dumping and more will be available in the coming months.

A GOVERNMENT WEBSITE allowing the public to report local difficulties such as poor street lighting, dumping, road defects and other maintenance issues is to be rolled out nationwide before the end of the year.
FixYourStreet.ie already operates in several council areas, including Dublin city, Fingal, South Dublin, Kildare, Galway and Waterford city, having been launched on a trial basis last year.

The service currently allows people in those areas to report local issues directly to their council electronically and have those logged for the attention of local council staff.

Speaking on RTÉ radio earlier, environment minister Phil Hogan said the website would be rolled out to people living in all council areas “between now and the end of the year”.

The website would offer all people living in Ireland the platform to “make their representations about their local directly to the local authority, and get a response within two working days”, he said.

“This is part of the new customer service that I am trying to inculcate into the culture of local government,” he said.

“We’ll have dedicated customer relations, new consumer information, and new ways in which we’re dealing with the government in respect of getting a response to their individual queries,” he said.

An average of about 400 reports are submitted to the site each month, with a total of 4,811 reports submitted since launch. The vast majority of those relate to the three Dublin councils currently operating under the site.

@Brian Buckley: yeah. Seems the idea of being on Roscommon is so unappealing that they’re not even having the talk about it anywhere near Roscommon. They’re going to Kilkenny instead.

Roscommon is a beautiful county with plenty to see and do. People should visit and see for themselves before judging.

@Roisin Carty: I love lough key forest park, there’s a zip wire network set up there that’s so much fun, spend the day on the ‘assault’ courses and I tried the Boda Borg thing before too (think Chrystal Maze puzzle rooms) and the grounds themselves are beautiful. Looks like visiting rindoon is now on my list of places to visit

@Roisin Carty: I was in Westport last week and headed for Donegal. Missed a turn and ended up in Roscommon. It was grim to say the least.

Tulsk reminded me of the village in the League of Gentlemen, Royston Vasey.
