Cork and Clare progress to All-Ireland hurling semi-finals

The two sides prevailed after an All-Ireland quarter-final double-header in Thurles.

The 42 is the home of quality journalism for passionate Irish sports fans, bringing you closer to the stories that matter through insightful analysis and sharp sportswriting.

Clare 2-28

Wexford 1-19

CLARE GOT THE better of Wexford in Thurles to advance to the All-Ireland hurling semi-finals with a 12-point win.

Wexford lost key forward Rory O’Connor after he was sent off with two yellow cards, which proved to be a pivotal factor. Clare were also briefly reduced to 14 players after David McInerney was sent to the sin bin with a black card, but the Banner made full use of the extra player in the second half.

Cork 0-26

Dublin 0-21

CORK WITHSTOOD A nervy finish to hold off a late Dublin rally to confirm their place in the All-Ireland SHC semi-finals for the first time since 2021.

Cork were ahead 0-15 to 0-10 at half-time and were nine points in front by the 45th minute. Dublin fought well to chip away at the deficit throughout the second half, but Cork held firm to clinch the win and advance.

The 42′s award-winning team produces original content that you won’t find anywhere else: on GAA, League of Ireland, women’s sport and boxing, as well as our game-changing rugby coverage, all with an Irish eye.

But he is right about the whingers. Look at here on journal:

Tax increase = government bad even if used to fund public services.
Tax cut = must be an election coming. They want to buy votes.

    Job losses= governments fault
New Jobs = government did nothing to create the jobs or are bad jobs.

    Homelessness = governments fault
Homeless reduced by 41% this year = it wasn’t the government who helped

The sky is cloudy = yeah we never see blue sky
Sky is blue = yeah but rain is on the way.

Never a truer word spoken Greg Kelly. There was a jobs announcement here recently we had a number of contributors here saying it was an election stunt. So what if it was an election stunt. There real jobs, jobs what will give someone a reason to get up in the morning. Jobs that will put money back in people pockets. Of course there many the contributors here that would do a day work if you plug them into the mains but will moan about everything none the less.

I can’t stand the c&nts but they are like an abusive husband worming his way back to his suffering wife. They will be at least 25 seats clear of SF next Saturday, and could even pip FG. The polls are a joke. Sure 20% voted for FF in 2011 for gods sake, when they were absolutely toxic!!
All of these people will vote for them again, and it’s easy to see them picking up another 5-8% this time around.

Jason, I don’t know whether you’re being sill or dishonest, maybe both. But I’ll explain regardless….

    1. I did not predict 100,000. I made no prediction of the sort. I stated that the national protests get 80,000-100,000. The difference between 80,000 and the number you’re falsely claiming I predicted is the same number RTE is claiming showed up in total, which is also false. There is no way I would predict 100,000 for a protest in the middle of February, so stop spoofing.

    2. RTE is claiming 20,000. R2C is claiming 80,000. I put the figure yesterday north of 70,000. RTEs figures have been so discredited that Waterford whispers even parodied it. There were also bystanders yesterday posting on here claiming massive numbers. II’l go with my lying eyes rather than a government troll account.

    3. The photos and videos. That 20,000 figure is only fooling the same people who get their news from the 6-1.

How is one estimate of numbers verses another estimate either lies or spoofery?
At best both numbers can be taken as political lead guesstimates, and anyone watching or seeing pics can make up thier own mind to how many attended.
My problem is that 1 higher estimate , that by organisers or marchers is openly agenda driven, the other lower setimate is from a supposedly indepenent public financed source.

Its unbearably unprofessional and unstatesmanlike. If the lower classes dont feel the benefits of a recovery its because his policys made it that way and now hes reflecting his failure of them onto them. Because you know people will vote for Michael ring because he is a good man with lots of good work done. You will only be elected on transfers from Michael ring if you are lucky! He would also get a significant amount of transfers from the other FG candidates if he dose t reach the quota. He has one of the safest seats in the country

Greg, the economy hot rock bottom, the only way was up. No matter who was in office the economy was going to grow and this has been accelerated simply due to external factors completely out of the control of our puny government. Exchange rates for example. Decline of the euro because of ECB quantitative easing. All this has NOTHING to do with the government. That’s the facts of the matter.

In times past, many believed that great benefits would befall ones constituency if a taoiseach eminated from it’s political ranks, and usually it did. Until now. Hopefully, the good people of Mayo will now realise that their county is only a doormat for EK to wipe his shoes before he sets foot on the corridors of power in Dublin and Europe. Maybe they will do the decent thing and throw him out, before he consigns rural Ireland to ghost towns and estates.

But if you go on any thread anywhere, the comments show the complete opposite, even here. There is little or no support for him.
So either the polls are rigged, or the election of Kenny and his government is already assured, regardless of what is seen and said on all social media. Something very dangerous is going on here.

I’ve been reading in the mainstream newspapers that Fine Geal’s strategists are relying on ‘frightening’ voters to shore up their own support. That’s straight out of the Irish politics manual. If you’ve been following what happened in the last Dail they the only real fear you’ll have is ‘politics as usual’ in this country. Also, Kenny’s comment recalls Ahern’s “…cribbers and moaners……”, which just about sums up the level of debate for so long in this country. FF, FG and Labour TD’s and ministers have great difficulty in presenting any kind of consistent, coherent, substantiated arguments and just resort to attack mode. Yes, it’s easier for the opposition parties and TD’s, because they don’t have to make the kind of compromises governments do, but this just not justify the contempt FF, FG and Labour adopt in public debate.

Irelands economy rises and falls on the world economy.. If US or Britain hit the skids so do we, simple. Currency value, interest rates etc. are not in our control. Our budget deficit is controlled by EU. So tell me what were the brilliant imaginative policies from FG/LAB that brought a recovery ? Other than doing what they were told ??

But they aren’t selling that message. Keep the recovery going is a catch phrase and was the main message. The electorate weren’t buying it though, Mostly now you hear that FF wrecked the country and SF will wreck it . Selling fear and perception. And keeping the leadership as low key as possible. No Tom, what it means is misrepresenting what is happening to put the best possible face on the government and to ignore anything that would undermine this. Standard operating procedure for Irish governments. An example (just one), FG and Labour maintain that the reduction in Troika bailout fund interest rate was a negotiating success with the European Commission for them. The truth (confirmed repeatedly in the Irish mainstream media itself) was that the Greek situation incurred that interest rate decrease and Ireland automatically benefited. No E.C. source has ever backed up FG/Labour on their claims and FG/Labour have never produced any E.C. document to verify their claim. FF would have made the same claims (and they were introducing water charges at a higher rate than FG/Labour in the available outline of their 5 year plan in 2010 which I and every person working in Revenue received a copy of).

With all the frothing at the mouth going on here today I will, as a floating voter, make a prediction that FG will be the largest party after this election with Enda Kenny as Taoiseach. The simple fact is the majority of working people and those that depend on their taxes know that their jobs/incomes will be protected under FG policy. It’s exactly like the Scottish referendum went…business and jobs trumped everything else. Right the country is not in an ideal place and is threatened by external economic downturns but our sacrifices have dragged us from the disastrous FF legacy….and just before I start the negative thumb dial flying…’Keep the recovery going!’

I was amazed when I actually heard this comment this morning. Does Enda Kenny really believe he’s the Messiah, yes we all moan at this Government, we are entitled because we have been through a tough period for the past 7 years or so. Maybe he forgets, FF & Labour picked up a huge amount of FF voters at the last elections, votes that were borrowed from FF. Personally I believe that Enda Kenny is more of a Dictator than a Leader of our country, he’d have been better to take the criticism & just button his lip & just try & get to next Friday where it all matters. Has he done damage to his party for his silly reaction, I’m sure we’ll all find out next week!

This demonstrates that he is a proper politican in that he is obviously more interested in making decisions to benefit the whole country than trying to be populist in his own constituency. Why should castlebar benefit any more than any other town just because the taoiseach comes from there?. We saw where that carry on got us after 14 years of Bertie and Co. All looking after their own patch to the detriment of rest. He’s correct about the whingers although for his own sake he’s better off not to have said it openly. He’s taoiseach of Ireland not Castlebar. Gone up in my estimation if anything.

He has attacked the principal of free speech and democracy, he has attacked people by passing the buck of poverty and unemployment onto them rather than at the governments doorstep.
One minute he is saying that the government is creating jobs which in reality it is the markets that do but then saying if you don’t have a job etc then it is not the governments fault.
If your unemployed and complaining about it then your a whinger, it seems your a whinger if your sexually assaulted, homeless, unemployed, dying on a trolly, been flooded, a victim of crime, etc etc…
If the government has done nothing for you then he is saying that if you complain about that then your a whinger, I think that is anyone outside Dublin?
He can’t dictate to people because his government were not up to the task as it is a bad crafts person who blames his tools and it is a bad political leader who blames the citizens / voters. If he is not fit for the job step down and let someone who is fit enough take his place…

Defining moments of #ge16, when the counting is done attention will turn to the blunders made by the current coalition. How could this government loose the election? My opinion is their arrogance and disconnect from the people on the street makes it extremely difficult to consider a first preference not to mind second or third for the current government.
