The CAO points for 2024 have just been released. Find them all here

Compare every course and institution with our dedicated site.

LEAVING CERT STUDENTS across the country received their results last week but this afternoon they have been told if those grades and points translate to entry into their preferred third-level courses.

Some 62,700 students sat the Leaving Cert in June but 83,500 have applied to the CAO this year.

The CAO Round One offers have now been released to the public, and you can check them all on The Journal at the button below.

Round One offers must be accepted by 3pm next Tuesday 3 September. Round Two offers will then be released at 2pm on Monday, 9 September – and again, we’ll have all the points right here on The Journal.

A free helpline, 1800 265 165, for parents and students will be in operation from today until Saturday 31 August, excluding this coming Sunday.

As long as they keep the points for primary teaching so high we will always have a teaching crisis. You do not need any student to have such high points for primary teaching. The more successful teachers are the ones who are more rounded in their approach to life rather than their academics.

@Alan: no need to be glib. Obviously there has to be a standard. I’m clearly making the point in context with the points requirement.

@Topgun: Points aren’t ‘kept high’. It reflects supply and demand. The published ‘points’ are the points obtained by the lowest student accepted into the course.

@Sean O’Dhubhghaill: as far as I know, in France you do degree to qualify for further education as a teacher with an exam/points at the end. Then; let’s say there are going to be 300 posts available in the upcoming year, so only the top 300 qualify as teachers in their chosen field.
Something like that I think. Primary teaching is probably not dissimilar. Open to correction !

@Topgun: You don’t seem to know how the points system works. Do any spots in these teaching courses go unfilled?!?! I’d say not because high points to get in means high demand for the course

@another one? what’s going on is the semi state sec: Switch your ladt sentence. High demand for a course means high points to get in.
