Oasis announce US tour dates, with no dynamic pricing for tickets

The band said that dynamic pricing had created an ‘unacceptable’ situation for fans in the UK and Ireland.

OASIS HAVE ANNOUNCED five dates for their tour of North America, with three shows in the United States, and one each in Canada and Mexico.

They will kick off the excursion with a show in Toronto, before hitting Chicago, New Jersey, and Los Angeles, finishing up in Mexico City.

The band has also announced that they will not be applying dynamic ticket pricing for the tour, after the practice came under heavy criticism for the UK and Ireland tour.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) said there were “legitimate concerns” over the practice.

In a statement on X, the band said that while dynamic pricing can be helpful in combatting ticket resellers, in the wrong conditions, it can lead to “an unacceptable experience for fans”.

“It is widely accepted that dynamic pricing remains a useful tool to combat ticket touting and keep prices for a significant proportion of fans lower than the market rate and thus more affordable.

“But, when unprecedented ticket demand (where the entire tour could be sold many times over at the moment tckets go on sale) is combined with technology that cannot cope with demand, it becomes less effective and can lead to an unacceptable experience for fans.

“We have made this decision for the North America tour to hopefully avoid a repeat of the issues fans in the UK and Ireland experienced recently,” the said.

The first date of the tour, at Rogers’ Stadium in Toronto on 24 August, takes place just a week after the final show of the Gallagher brothers’ UK and Ireland tour, in Croke Park on 17 August, all but dashing fans’ hopes for an extra show in Dublin.

What a poor decision in a time where we face generation shortages and rising costs which affect the poorest in society disproportionately, not to mention the climate crisis.

I assume that the CRU will have no issue agreeing to suppliers rasing prices on consumers once again when supply tightens yet again?

@Lee King Buckett: the poor decisions have been the governments over the past 15 years, making silly legislation and policy changes to appease the Greens and keep them in power. It’s basically put the CRU in this position. The CRU are basically at the stable door with a foot against it while the last 15 years governments egged on by the Greens have been feeding the horse up with red bull and vodka while giving it a few strikes.

@Lee King Buckett: More demand equals more profit for investment and more jobs. If Eirgrid can’t support the business bring in a competitor. Data centres are actually fairly efficient at what they do.

Data centres are not the problem…. Predictable constant demand power….. Perfect for wind power. Peak demand between the hours of 5 and 10 is a is a bigger issue. Where are the pumped hydro projects!!!

@Baronvoncass: have you any idea how much power an average data center consumes?? It consumes as much energy as a whole city. And how many data centers do we have atm? 70? and still being built. 5 more years and there will be no electricity for you to boil your kettle.

@John Johnes: That can be true, the 70 data centres across the country currently consume 15% of Ireland’s energy needs, ave. 0.21% each. How many cities do we have?

Any new connections should be underground and the companies should also have to pay for underground connection and also instal some wind turbines or solar generation before being allowed to operate.

@Gerard Heery: How much Gw wind/ solar / biomass are contributing to the grid. Wind has a huge stake in the market. Also two interconectors. New upgraded gas power station in great island and midlands. Large scale Solar generation installation start next year along with microgeneration in thousands of homes.
You wont need to worry about any lights going out.

Whatever the merits of the decision (made by people who appear to be very close to the industry). It always astounds me how those in ‘Irish power’ will bend over backwards for industry, but will sit on their hands nodding when it comes to the people that live here. It will need to get a lot worse before it gets better but at least we’ve shaken off the illusion pf progress and are well on our way to the bottom.

Maybe Data Centres should be charged a premium for the electricity they use, and the surplus used to expand sustainable energy sources, at least it goes some way to offsetting their drain on the grid.

The Capitalists rule the roost in this FF&FG “great little scam country to do business in”.

They’ve had 100 years to turn Ireland into a tax haven where the citizen has become the “customer” and taxation is only something to be levied on the poor and used to help the already rich.

    Who votes for these sadists?

At last someone making a sensible decision, but how the Planet Irelanders are screaming. They as we all know are followers of the new cult that believe Ireland is on a separate planet to Earth, and that all we need to do is get rid of the data centres, and unfortunately all that goes with them, half our cattle and buy an extra million bicycles, and all our climate problems will be solved.
If we just stopped wasting vast amounts of money on the subsidy harvesting scams, and instead pressed forward with a few Gen 4 SMRs, there would be no problem. Of course next to the SMRs, placed into the old peat stations, come the data centres. Then using the waste heat of both, the hydroponics, aeroponics, aquaponics, all pesticide free. Then the Fly larvae units and then the close contained fish farms and fowl and the the sequestration. Job done, but suppose all this doesn’t fit the agenda of the all the virtue signalling NGOs and the like.
