Uisce Éireann completes works on mains in North Dublin, customers warned of discoloured water

As the network refills and pressures return throughout the day customers may experience discolouration to their supply, Uisce Éireann warned.

LAST UPDATE | 26 Oct 2024

UISCE ÉIREANN HAS completed its work repairing a water main supplying parts of North Dublin this afternoon with water supply returning to normal for residents of the affected areas.

The repairs were carried out by specialist crews who worked throughout the night and this morning to fix the water main supplying the residents and businesses of Swords, Santry, Malahide, Portmarnock, Kinsealy, Lissenhall, Donabate, Portrane, Clarehall, Malahide Road, Donaghmede, and surrounding areas.

As the network refills and pressures return throughout the day customers may experience discolouration to their supply, Uisce Éireann warned.

Customers on higher ground or at the end of the network may experience disruption or an intermittent supply for the remainder of the day.

Customers in parts of Santry, Baskin, and Forest Little will see their supplies return to normal as the day progresses.

For more information, please customers can visit the website here.

Stephen Burke of Uisce Éireann thanked customers for their understanding while these critical repair works were underway.

“These works are now completed, and the water pressures throughout the network are returning to normal. Some people may experience discoloured water and we would ask these people to run their taps for up to 20 minutes until the water runs clear.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience during the duration of these works. While the works successfully resolved the large leak and water is returning, we will need to do further works on the pipe in the future.

The repairs are on the trunk main supplying water to Swords, Santry, Malahide, Portmarnock, Kinsealy, Lissenhall, Donabate, Portrane, Clarehall, Malahide Road, and Donaghmede.

The following areas earlier saw water outages continue, according to the company: Coachmans, Royal Oak and the Airways industrial estate in Santry, Baskin in Kinsealy, and Forest Little in Swords.

Customers in Malahide and Portmarnock were also expected to experience water interruptions as the reservoir levels recovered.

Alternate water supplies for affected customers will remain in place at:

  • Seaview Park, Portrane
  • Island View, Malahide
  • St. Finian’s Catholic Church, Swords South
  • St. Colmcille’s GAA Club, Swords North
  • Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club
  • Santry Park

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and, as a precaution, boil the water before drinking.

As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes. Uisce Éireann advises customers to familiarise themselves with their storage capacity.

Uisce Éireann said that it is committed to keeping customers informed across multiple platforms 24/7 and has encouraged customers to engage with it through our website, X channels @IWCare and @IrishWater, on Facebook and LinkedIn and through the customer care helpline which is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.

Uisce Éireann has launched a free text service, providing real-time updates for local issues. Customers can sign up with their Eircode and mobile number at www.water.ie.

Very sad for all involved. My local area is crazy with quads on both main roads and by-roads. Only a matter of time before there is a serious accident. Most are young boys on them and parents just let them.

A beach buggy should certainly not be used on a public road. They are extremely unsafe in a collision. They have no safety rating.

@Fiona deFreyne: beach buggy sounds like a toy. It’s obvious it’s a quad and kids in rural areas get to use them like cars to get around. Far too dangerous, and the parents will have to live with giving their kids (who are only above the Santa age) access to a motorised vehicle.

Beach buggies, quads and jeeps like Hilux’s should not be allowed on the roads, was only looking at two of these Jeep types fully kitted with killer bull bars in the last hour, not saying that this Hilux was fitted with them but they seem to be a fashion accessory these days, at the least a high category of road tax should apply to them, R.I.P. poor child.

@Charles Coughlan: good idea,a higher road tax will make them much softer in the event of a collision,

@Charles Coughlan: I did some research on ‘Bull bars’ in the early ’90′s. Even milk delivery vans were fitted with them! The CSO were no use for statistics because they only release agenda – driven sexy soundbites for the Government. Turned out the most popular 4×4′s were being fitted with ‘Bull bars’ made by companies around Dublin. Nice little remove from the manufacturers / garages (and S.I.M.I.!) Meanwhile in the U.K., the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) told me that they had a voluntary, industry – wide ban on them.

@Thomas Blackcat: cut the PC crap. No child should have access to a buggy like that and be allowed to or have the chance to take keys and bring it on the road or anywhere without an adult. It’s exactly this kind of attitude that allows scores of children to be killed on farms. A complete lack of adult supervision resulting in tragedy

    @David Peate:
    I agree.

And to those who suggested they might not have been allowed –
Even if they weren’t explicitly allowed, the vehicle was left in a position where they could take it. Which amounts to the same thing as allowing them to take it and use it.
