The Daily PollIT’S THE FIRST day of November, and for the festive fanatics out there it is officially time to dust off the Christmas playlist.
We’re not at the chestnuts roasting on an open fire/Christmas hysteria stage yet, but there are some shops who have their decorations up, and lights have been spotted hanging on city streets, just waiting to be switched on.
But is it too early for all of that? Should the tunes wait until the more traditional start date of December?
So today we’re asking: Is it too early to play Christmas music?

I used to actually enjoy Christmas. Now because of greed and pushing in our faces earlier and earlier every year it’s more like a very unenjoyable endurance test.
As a taxi driver the vast majority of my customers think the same way. Basically it’s a season that has been ruined for many people

So let’s get this straight: Barbie Kardashian, who is a male in a woman’s prison with a history of violence against women, threatens to rape a fellow prisoner with an ‘electric rod’ or an ‘object’ leaving her ‘unable to have children’ is acquitted on death threat charges by a jury of 12 people. This person who having assaulted his mother on numerous occasions as a teenager said he would like to ‘kill her slowly’ and would like to inflict pain on other women , is able to, with the mere stroke of a pen, change her birth certificate to recognise her as a woman rather than a man- without any surgery- and get transferred to a women’s prison where she’s able to continue with her open, blatant threats against women. Can this be reality? Good God! If this is the future,
I want no part of it.

In fairness, Christmas stuff was already pushed up our faces in September, early October in some shops, including those of a well-known garden and DIY chain…
They couldn’t wait till after Halloween to start selling stuff (at a “discount”) that’ll be thrown away by Stephen’s Day… Such a waste, consumerism at its worst.
The green party have already said christmas will be banned this year unless santa sleigh is switched to EV and a data center is allowed to be built in the north pole

It doesn’t matter what we think, we are going to be drowned in it anyway. I would seriously favour legislation to ban seasonal promotions until 4 weeks before the event in question.

Retailers know that the longer they play Christmas music the more customers spend, it’s as simple and cynical as that.

I remember seeing a programme once about this Christmas carol choir that sang at a lunatic asylum in Berlin. They always finished off with “God rest ye Jerry mental men”
Ah Christmas, that special time of the year for christians, children and alcoholics. Can’t stand it, the witless consumerism, the hypocrisy, the forced jollity. And worst of all, the same few awful Christmas records over and over and over again!
When I worked in retail, Santa always arrived at the stores around the 16th of Nov.
6 weeks to Christmas Day.
Plenty of time then to enjoy the festivities.

Shun Christmas . Don’t send Christmas Cards . Don’t buy Christmas presents for anyone . Don’t put up Christmas decorations . Christmas is regarded as That Baby’s Birthday , so why should you , me or anyone else expect presents on That Baby’s Birthday ? If someone gives you a Christmas present , accept it graciously , then as they stand around expecting a present in return , just cold eye them . They will soon become embarrassed and give up . You win .
