1. #SANDY: At least 16 people have died and millions have been left without power after ‘super-storm’ Sandy hit the east coast of the United States overnight. There was a record surge in seawater in New York City with flooding and power cuts in parts of Lower Manhattan. You can keep up to date with live coverage from the Weather Channel here.

2. #NAVAN: Gardaí and Bus Eireann are investigating a fatal road crash which killed a woman on the Kells Road in Navan yesterday evening. A three-year-old girl was among a number of other people involved in the collision between a car and a bus.

3. #UNDECLARED: 14 TDs could face disciplinary action after they failed to declare pay-offs from councils they once sat on in the Dáil’s Register of Members’ Interests. An investigation by TheJournal.ie has found that Fine Gael, Labour and Sinn Féin TDs are all implicated in having failed to declare former positions as councillors which resulted in pay-0ffs ranging from €3,791 to €53,529.

4. #ERIN: The mother of the 13-year-old girl who was found dead on Saturday has told some of the today’s newspapers that she warned gardaí two months ago that her daughter was being bullied online. The death of Donegal girl Erin Gallagher came a day after she posted messages on the internet lashing out at people who had abused her with suicide charity Console encouraging people who are victims of cyber bullying to seek help.

5. #LOWRY: The controversial independent TD Michael Lowry has failed to declare land that he owns in the UK on the Register of Members’ Interests in recent years the Irish Examiner reports this morning. Conor Ryan writes that the land in question was linked to a blackmail allegations that were investigated by the Moriarty Tribunal. Lowry rejected the findings of the Tribunal last year.

6. #DUBLIN AIRPORT: A group of trade unions whose members work for Aer Lingus are meeting today to discuss plans for co-ordinated industrial action having failed so far to find a resolution to a dispute over pensions. Officials from IMPACT, SIPTU, Mandate and the TEEU, which collectively represent 2,500 Aer Lingus staff, will discuss possible one-day strikes today.

7. #IPADS: The plan by the Houses of the Oireachtas to purchase tablet devices for TDs and Senators to use for their work has been criticised by one of the only TDs who does not claim any expenses, the Irish Times reports. Labour’s Eamonn Maloney – who failed to declare his council pay-off – says that any member who needs a tablet device should buy one at their own expense.

8. #NO SMOKING: Despite having spent nearly €12,000 on no-smoking signs, patients and visitors at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital continue to flout the policy, TheJournal.ie has found. The hospital has admitted that it can only request compliance from people and said that it is not currently applying any sanction for the no-smoking policy being breached.

9. #BOLIVIA: A radio journalist in Bolivia was set on fire while broadcasting a programme in the south of the country, BBC News reports. Fernando Vidal was doused in petrol by four masked men before being set alight. He is currently being treated for burns along with another staff member from Radio Popular. Political reasons are believed to have been behind the attack.
