PTSB resolves payments issue for 'majority of customers' following technical issue

The PTSB app is also down at the moment because of a “system upgrade”.

LAST UPDATE | 29 Nov 2024

PERMANENT TSB have said that they have resolved a technical issue for the “majority of customers” after customers experienced delays in sending and receiving payments this morning due to a technical issue.

The PTSB app is still down because of a “system upgrade”, with PTSB advising customers to use their website.

Today is pay day for many workers. It is also Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year when retailers slash prices on many products.

“Due to a technical issue with a third-party payments provider, some customers may be experiencing delays when sending or receiving SEPA payments,” the bank said in a statement on its website and on social media earlier today.

SEPA refers to the Single Euro Payments Area, the system for processing euro payments across the European Union.

PTSB said it has since resolved the issue for most customers, though many customers are voicing concerns online that they are still waiting on payment transfers.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will provide further updates via our website, social media and mobile app throughout the day,” the bank’s statement said.

“All other PTSB services are operating as normal,” it said despite its app not being available.

In some cases, attempts to open the app have been met with a notification saying an “unexpected error has occurred”.

I saw one article saying that some people were waiting on their wages for black Friday sales..
Now maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think that anybody who is living paycheck to paycheck should be worrying about black Friday sales unless it is in the food dept…

@hi from heaven: a lot of people wait for sales to buy articles they need, like a washing machine that needs replacing. A few years ago, our fridge died just before black Friday and I was lucky to find one that was genuinely heavily discounted (not the so called discounts that see prices inflated a few weeks beforehand and then returned to normal on BF). Obviously, that’s not something I’d buy often and 8 years later that fridge is still going.

@Damien Doherty: Ireland doesn’t have or use credit ratings Damien. Although records of missed mortgage payment would normally be reflected on the central credit register, in this case the missed payment is due to a fault on the part of the payment processor so this will not be reported to the CCR.

@Kevin Collins: Banks have credit ratings always had. They never published this but I know for a fact they do, as I’ve seen ours albeit about 15years ago… we were A1 btw…the CCR is what’s reported to it and it’s not accurate, again this I know for a fact. But if anyone wants to know their Bank credit rating it takes time and money, our situation was legal and that’s how we learned of it.

@Paul O’Mahoney: Individual lending institutions use their own internal models and frameworks to perform lending decisions, and data from the CCR is typically used for this purpose. However these models are proprietary to each bank and are not published, disclosed or shared with external parties. Hence the American concept of a “credit score” or individualised credit ratings does not exist in Ireland (thankfully). You can see the data held about you on the CCR for free by the way and if there is anything inaccurate there you can request to have it removed.

this is a disgrace, both of us are waiting to check our monthly paycheck and an important deposit and can’t access our accounts. It’s not the first time and the services are going down the drain in the branches. We live in an adverage sized town with no PTSB since the 90′s. We have to travel 20-40 miles each way to bank if the town ATMs aren’t working, which has happening two days running this week. I have banked with PTSB for over 43 years because they used to give good service, but not anymore.

And to troop out the repeated comment “customers will not be impacted financially” adding insult to injury to those who will be late making payments for mortgages, loans and other committments just displays how utterly detatched they are from reality.
