SEVERAL COMPANIES AND institutions have been honoured today as part of the Food Safety Professionals Association (FSPA) conference.
The conference, which focused on the dangers associated with food allergies and cross contamination, was held in Dublin earlier today.
Recognized for their commitment to food safety, personal hygiene and staff facilities, along with a strict management of and adherance to safety guidelines were St Patricks University Hospital (Dublin), Sodexo at Novartis (Cork), The Farm Gate Midleton (Cork), Coláiste na Rinne (Co Waterford) and Waterford Institute of Technology.
Presenting the awards was Tom Doorley, who said:
Recent outbreaks of E. Coli serve as an important reminder that food safety is not just a legal requirement but a moral obligation. As a nation of food producers, we must ensure that the excellent quality and flavor of our food is matched by equally impressive food safety standards. The work of the FSPA and their network of advisors and trainers in Ireland ensure that expertise and support is on hand to help our food businesses.

Perhaps a campaign to tell all those sandwich shops that touching food with their hands (whether in gloves or not) and then handling money is absolutely not OK – widespread practice…
