A Ryanair flight to Birmingham was the first takeoff at Dublin Airport this morning. Dublin Airport

Flights resuming at Dublin Airport but travellers warned of further cancellations and delays

Dozens of flights continue to be delayed.

LAST UPDATE | 24 Jan

FLIGHTS HAVE BEGUN taking place in and out of some Irish airports today, following the cancellation of hundreds of journeys earlier this morning across Irish airports due to Storm Éowyn.

Further cancellations and delays to flights “are possible during the remainder of the day” according to an update posted by Dublin Airport.

Flights have also resumed at Ireland West Airport in Knock, Co Mayo.

At least 135 flights that were scheduled to depart from Dublin Airport today were cancelled, according to the airport’s live flights webpage.

Additionally, at least 110 flights that were meant to arrive in the airport today have been cancelled.

Dozens more have been delayed.

However, Dublin Airport has said it’s had its first arrival and departure in the past hour as winds ease.

“Winds have eased somewhat over the past hour, which has allowed flights to recommence,” said a statement on the airport’s social media channels.

“The first departure of the morning was a Ryanair flight to Birmingham at 09.27, followed by a Ryanair flight to Faro shortly after.”

Flights interrupted

In a statement posted to social media shortly before 2pm, Ireland West Airport said its flights have now resumed.

Some services throughout the remainder of the day may be operating with a delay due to the aftermath of the storm, the update said.

“Passengers intending to travel this afternoon and evening are advised to contact their airline for the most accurate and up-to-date flight information,” it added.

“Our phone lines are currently down at the airport, if you have any queries please contact operations@irelandwestairport.com.”

Likewise, all morning flights in and out of Shannon Airport were cancelled or delayed. Some flights scheduled later in the day are still due to travel.

At Cork Airport, at least around 15 flights have been cancelled so far across departures and arrivals.

Belfast International Airport has said that “most of our airline partners have suspended flights for the morning period and passengers have been advised”.

What I’d like to see is the unemployment figures if Germany was excluded. I’d say that would give the figure a good jump

“26 million people in the EU unemployed” not to worry, they are welcome in Ireland and they can get Social Welfare, free housing, children’s allowance (no need to uproot your children), free medical, travel pass and anything you can think of that theIrish who were self employed are not entitled too! Immigrants get priority! If you feel you are not getting your entitlements when you arrive on these shores, just shout racism and you are entitled to free legal representation too.
All welcome even if you are not European!
