Will you go to a music festival this year?

It may be miserable outside, but we’re dreaming of sunnier times to come this summer.

TWO IRISH MUSIC festivals, Forbidden Fruit and Longitude, have announced their respective line ups for this summer.

Forbidden Fruit, which is now in its 13th year, will feature Jamie XX, Underworld and Caribou, while Longitude is returning to Marlay Park with David Guetta and 50 Cent set to take to the stage.

While the headliners might not be to everyone’s taste, there’s no shortage of festivals taking place across the country this summer.

Electric Picnic has set the date for its 21st year in Stradbally (although there is no line up announced yet), while All Together Now is set to return for the August bank holiday.

So today we’re asking: Will you go to a music festival this year?

Does a single day, under a large covering, with a crowd mostly over 40 count?

I will NEVER sleep in a tent in a field to attend a music festival!! LOL

@Tricia G28: What’s wrong wth a crowd over 40? Allow me to remind you that the songs that your trendy singer sings are covers made by baby boomers or songs created by Gen X, e.g, people over 40. Plus, This new generation is the only generation where they behave like grandpas, everything is offensive and cute. Before, our parents used to tell us to cut our hair or stop listening to the devil’s music. Now the 80s bands are the ones banging. Hard to imagine that 40-year-olds are funnier to hang out nowadays. I know where I’ll be this summer, Iron Maiden at Maahide Castle.

Went to my last one in 2010, Life festival in Mullingar. They are tough on the mind and body. Organisers basically bullying people into buying tickets before full line up’s are announced is bolox too.

I wish we had one really heavy festival here. I like lots of music, but the festivals here are absolutely dominated by dance music, indie and rap variants with a bit of post-punk type stuff thrown in. I have nothing against these styles. I love lots of acts and musicians within all of them. But it’s hard not to look on with envy at the really heavy festivals that happen pretty much everywhere else in Europe during the summer! There are enough rockers and metal heads in Ireland for one measly festival out of all the ones that happen every year, surely!

@S banter: Yeah definitely, there’s loads in the UK and Europe. They cover everything from the more accessible bands to the more full-on stuff. It’s not like there isn’t an appetite for it here. Anytime anything in this general area happens, it pretty much always sells out.

@John C: I made one comment. It’s not like I’m giving out 24/7. Have you any idea the kind of money, levels of professionalism and know how it takes to put on a large festival? It’s a Herculean task. Between the laws, regulations, finance, insurance, contacts and a million other things: it’s not something you just decide to throw on one day yourself. I simply suggested it would be nice if the pros who work with large teams of people all year around on these events, had room for just one festival that catered to that set of music fans. It’s not something someone with zero promotional experience and no financial backing just decides to do one day! Booking the acts alone would cost millions!
