THE DEPARTMENT OF Social Protection has issued payments to 1,613 homeowners affected by Storm Éowyn, totalling €316,000 – but averaging out to just €195.91 per claim.
The payments were issued under the Humanitarian Assistance Support Scheme. The scheme is an emergency financial payment available to homeowners in the immediate aftermath of a severe weather event.
The department noted that the payment is open to homeowners in affected areas who do not have any power or water supply, and includes support to pay for alternative accommodation if necessary.
Hundreds of thousands of people lost power and water during Storm Éowyn, with many people remaining without either in various areas across the country.
The Humanitarian Assistance Scheme (HAS) offers varying levels of support, including emergency support payments for food, clothing and personal items in the immediate aftermath, which is not income tested.
Support for alternative accommodation is also not income tested.
Longer-term financial supports – including damage repair – and payments to provide for the replacement of goods – such as furniture and other essential household items – are provided on income limits.
Reduced or tapered level of support may be provided in cases where a household‘s income is above these limits. The level of payment depends on how severe the damage is and a person’s ability to meet these costs.
The Community Welfare Service is working closely with the local authorities and Community Welfare Officers are visiting people in their homes where necessary to provide support, the department said.

The war only affects one fifth of Ukrainian so why are they all coming to ireland a small country that can hardly manage its own population.

@Fran Riley: avg salary in Ukraine is 188 usd/m and in ireland they get 220 per week + accommodation + food + education + bills that are capped at 30 euros/Month + child benefits and a council house without rent and an irish Passport in 3 years and discounted travel and no tax and insurance and many more so why not come here? thats why ireland has spent more than 3 billions on Ukrainians since the war started.

Fintan Stack: so many numbers that we cannot accommodate under a roof and are kept in tents that means we have more than half a million arrived according to unofficial sources because the government will never declare and many came from safe countries like Canada Germany Poland and the rest. you can find this information on Ukrainian Facebook pages.

We are currently spending €42,000,000 per month on immigration.. unsustainable

Any chance of peace talks or is it just send more and more military equipment. This war will go on for years and lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths.
@: russia does need to be defeated, and defeated so utterly that it wont be a threat to its neighbours again.
Then we can have peace.
If we do not ensure that defeat of russia, then we assure further wars, and more death and destruction.

Our weak political representation have been the implored to prolong this war and they are carrying out their orders to the detriment of its own people
