The 9 at 9 Good morning. Here’s nine things to know before you start your day…

EVERY DAY, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine stories you need to know as you kick off your day.

1. #USA 2012: Voters go to the polls in America today to either re-elect President Barack Obama or cast him aside in favour of Republican contender Mitt Romney. As the candidates made their last dash across the states, TheJournal.ie asked some Irish people living in the US what they were thinking about the whole process.

2. #OUCH: Actor Gabriel Byrne has criticised The Gathering tourism initiative, branding it “a scam” and accusing Ireland of ‘shaking down’ Irish-American visitors “for a few quid”.

3. #GOOD NEWS: Fund administration company Butterfield Fulcrum Group is to create 150 new jobs in Dublin over the next three years.

4. #D-DAY: The Cabinet is to make a final decision today on the location of the long-awaited National Children’s Hospital. The meeting comes after Minister James Reilly admitted that the deadline of 2016 cannot be met.

5. #SEX ABUSE: The Rape Crisis Network has said that the vast majority of the 2,308 survivors that received counselling last year were children when they were sexually abused. New statistics reveal that survivors of child sexual violence had waited an averaged of 25 years to access support services.

6. #DAVID BLACK: High-profile Republican Colin Duffy has threatened to sue the PSNI for unlawful arrest, the Irish News has revealed. The Lurgan 44-year-old was detained on Friday in connection with the shooting of prison officer David Black but it has now emerged that a judge subsequently ordered his release.

7. #MURDER A third person has been charged with the murder of six children who were killed in a house fire in Derby in May. Paul Mosley stands accused alongside the victims’ parents Michael and Mairead Philpott.

8. #SANDY New York’s Attorney General has launched an investigation into post-Hurricane Sandy price gouging after receiving hundreds of complaints from consumers over the increased cost of essential items, including food, water, petrol, generators, batteries and flashlights.

9. #LAKESIDE: Fancy owning one of the beautiful lakes of Killarney? Lough Guitane could be yours for a bargain €1.6 million, according to the Irish Examiner. But you would also then be responsible for the sole provider of drinking water to the county of Kerry.

  • Over on DailyEdge.ie: Brad Pitt’s furniture, Brian and Vogue told  ’get out of Oz’, and Kim Kardashian is a douche… It’s The Dredge

@ no 5. i wonder how many of these 2,308 people who were abused were in ‘state care’ at the time of their abuse? and this government wants the people to vote ‘yes’ and give them MORE powers in the childrens referendum. some joke!
