An excellent idea. The tax payer deserves to know where his/her money has been spent.

income tax is only one kind of tax – what about how they spend car tax, VAT, excise duty, VRT, and whatever other stealth taxes they have? in principle I’m all for the idea but it needs to go farther.

VAT is too hard to view unless you are a business owner. I think it’s a great idea and I’d like to see a listing in what the property tax is being spent on.

vat is easy to see even a business has to submit VAT returns which can be Easley broken down to where it is spent well as long as the government know where it is spent(surely they know where they spend it)..
the mathematical formula remains the same in each case just the inputted data changes so it is pretty simple

It is a start but not enough. There is a glimmer of transperncy involved. We see how it will develop wether it’s spin doctor crap or a real effort been made.

Well actually Michaelwe don’t know what their spending it on. We know some of the money goes to what you have outlined, but they do actually run the country with some of it too. It will be good to get a break down of where that monies is going and what wastage is present, The less they can hide behind secrets the more accountable they will be at public level. This is a step in the right direction if it ever comes into effect.

Nice idea. Hopefully if it happens they will add information as what the house tax and water charges are spent on. Though I guess they will claim they can not provide information on the water charges because it is commercial sensitive information.

Great idea. It might also show some people how little they actually contribute to society. Compared to what they get out of it..

There’s a difference between contributing to society and paying tax. Tax is just one small part of it ‘Economy’ and ‘society’ are not the same thing.

Excellent I am looking forward to see how many millions are spent on overseas aid, asylum seekers as nd the whole asylum program and how much money is spent on the dozens of quangos who support illegal practices such as encouraging asylum seekers to lie and play the system to get into Ireland

It’s a great idea, but why do I get the feeling that “a couple of lines of code” will turn out to be an expensive consultancy operation that runs up bills of thousands of euros.

An app like this exists in the Czech Republic: http://budovanistatu.cz/bread

You type in how much you make a month and it estimates how much of your money is being spent on what. It’s unofficial and inaccurate, though. A personalized app with real tax data would be a very cool thing to have indeed.

This is complete BS, a lot of the time governments (ours and all others) can’t explain where they have spent missing millions, there is no way this government is going to be able to give me a break down of the 20 odd grand i paind in taxes last year, no way.

Don’t think we will see a brake down of TD’s tax contributions will be a blank as they can claim expenses under so many different headings then can legally have a tax bill of zero.

Next year on 166 TD,S alone there will be €82,585,000 wasted on their wages.

Yet they,re cutting us down to the very bone of things.
