Ireland's Garry Ringrose to face hearing on Thursday after red card against Wales

He will attend the hearing via video conference before an independent disciplinary committee.

IRELAND’S GARRY RINGROSE will face a disciplinary hearing on Thursday in the wake of being sent off in Saturday’s Six Nations win over Wales.

The Leinster back was sent to the sidelines after making a dangerous challenge in the first half of the 27-18 victory in Cardiff.

He initially received a yellow card but it was upgraded for red after a bunker review.

It was confirmed this morning that Ringrose ‘will attend an independent disciplinary hearing’ on Thursday morning at 9am.

He received the red card by referee Christophe Ridley, ‘for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.13 (A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously)’.

He will attend the hearing via video conference before an independent disciplinary committee consisting of Matthew Weaver – Chair (England), joined by Stefan Terblanche (South Africa) and Leon Lloyd (England).

Be surprised if it’s anything other than out for last 2 6N games.
We were pretty lucky it was only a 20 minute red.
14 man Ireland almost certainly would have lost – the pundits saying we’d beat Wales with 12 were very wrong.
Last point ….Aviva too small for Ireland matches like the next one v France ……IRFU & GAA need to get chatting

@Gerry Kelly: I think we need to stick those pundits in public stocks! Talk about embarrassing the country, and handing the opposition ammunition, that’s tantamount to treason! I jest of course…..or do I?

@Gerry Kelly: the IRFU have signed a contract with Aviva, and banked the cheque, there will be no change of venue.

I thought that it was a very harsh red card. Ringrose dipped into the tackle as low as he could and Ben Thomas stepped before going into contact. I was surprised that the referee didn’t deem a change in direction by Thomas as mitigation. I’m not that worried about the outcome though. Ringrose has had a dip in form recently for Leinster which he seems to have carried onto the Ireland squad. Aki completely changed the game when he came on and Henshaw is much more effective at 13 than 12. I’d personally have them starting against France to begin with and have Ringrose on the bench for impact. Since Ringrose will probably get a three match ban and will be out for the rest of the Six Nations, I hope Nash comes onto the bench because he had a great outing against Scotland and deserves it.

@William Jennings: Ringrose didn’t dip at all, never mind ‘as low as he could’. That was the problem.

@William Jennings: And Osborne is the obvious bench choice (more versatile than Nash, who possibly deserves a place on the team anyway ahead of Hansen).

@Brendan O’Brien: I’d recommend you watch the tackle again Brendan. Ringrose is bent so low that he’s practically on one knee. Thomas steps suddenly before Ringrose tackles him, which referees usually consider to be mitigation. I definitely agree with you on Nash starting ahead of Hansen, who’s done very little to show that he deserves to keep the 14 jersey. Alas, Hansen doesn’t seem to be budging for now but if I had the choice I would start Nash and put Osbourne in the 23 jersey as you said.

@Brendan O’Brien: ya it had nothing to do with ringrose committed to a tackle of someone moving away from him and then stepping into him.

@William Jennings: I don’t think he dipped: I think he slipped and may have been unlucky to make head contact, but it was still a reckless challenge.

@William Jennings: it will most probably be osbourne,he covers 12,13,15,snd has played on wing for leinster, his flexability will make him better cover than nash.

So 2 out of the 3 “independent disciplinary committee” members are English, with the last being a Saffa…… independent being the objective word here.
