News reporter with fluent Irish? The Journal is hiring its first-ever Gaeltacht Correspondent

Applications are currently being accepted up until 13 April.

LAST UPDATE | 11 Apr

THE JOURNAL IS to hire its first-ever Gaeltacht Correspondent who will prioritise and report on issues facing people living in Gaeltacht areas.

The journalist taking up the role will be based in the west of the country and will expand The Journal’s news team which already includes reporters based in a number of regional areas.

As well as reporting on issues of heritage protection specific to Gaeltacht regions, it is envisaged that the new role will also shine a light on how wider challenges to housing, enterprise and culture are felt in these areas.

The position is supported by Coimisiún na Meán’s Local Democracy Reporting Scheme, which earlier this year confirmed total funding of €5.7 million to dozens of news organisations across the country to support local news reporting.

The Journal’s new position of Gaeltacht Correspondent will be an experienced reporter with at least three years of experience in a news journalism role.

Those applying for the role will be required to have fluent Irish.

Although fluent Irish is a requirement for the role, the new Gaeltacht Correspondent will be producing written, audio and video content in both Irish and English.

Applications for the position are currently being accepted up until 13 April and further details of the position, including how to apply, are available in The Journal’s career section.

Tuairisceoir nuachta atá líofa sa Ghaeilge? Tá Comhfhreagraí Gaeltacht le fostú ag The Journal den chéad uair riamh

Tá Comhfhreagraí Gaeltachta le fostú ag The Journal den chéad uair riamh, a thabharfaidh tús áite do shaincheisteanna mhuintir na gceantar Gaeltachta agus tuairisciú a thabhairt orthu.

Beidh an t-iriseoir sa ról bunaithe in iarthar na tíre agus cuirfear é nó í le foireann nuachta The Journal ina bhfuil tuairisceoirí bunaithe i gceantair réigiúnacha éagsúla cheana.

Chomh maith le tuairisciú a thabhairt ar shaincheisteanna maidir le cosaint oidhreachta a bhaineann go sonrach le réigiúin Ghaeltachta, tá sé beartaithe go dtabharfaidh an ról nua seo léargas ar na dúshláin níos leithne maidir le tithíocht, fiontraíocht agus cultúr sna ceantair seo.

Tacaíonn Scéim Tuairiscithe um Dhaonlathas Áitiúil de chuid Coimisiún na Meán leis an bhfolúntas seo, agus deimhníodh níos luaithe i mbliana go dtugtar maoiniú iomlán de €5.7 milliún d’eagraíochtaí nuachta ar fud na tíre chun tacú le tuairisciú nuachta áitiúil.

Líonfaidh tuairisceoir a bhfuil taithí aige nó aici agus a bhfuil ar a laghad trí bliana de thaithí aige nó aici i ról iriseoireachta nuachta folúntas nua The Journal do Chomhfhreagraí Gaeltachta.

Ní mór dóibh siúd atá ag cur isteach don phost a bheith líofa sa Ghaeilge. Cé go bhfuil sé riachtanach a bheith líofa sa Ghaeilge don ról seo, cuirfidh an Comhfhreagraí Gaeltachta nua ábhar scríofa, fuaime agus físeáin ar fáil i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla araon.

Glacfar le hiarratas don fholúntas seo go dtí an 13 Aibreán agus tá tuilleadh sonraí ar an bhfolúntas, lena n-áirítear conas iarratas a chur isteach, ar fáil ar roinn gairmeacha The Journal.

Please ensure that they have a fairly neutral accent. RTÉ currently have a commentator who’s has beautiful but impossible to follow accent. Subtitles would be great to pick up on all the new or difficult words for those of us very rusty but willing to listen
