Teenage student dies after school knife attack in France

The French president extended his “heartfelt thoughts” to the families of those impacted by incident.

LAST UPDATE | 24 Apr

A TEENAGE GIRL in France has died after she was injured in a knife attack while at school in Nantes, President Emmanuel Macron has said.

Three students were also injured in the attack that was allegedly carried out by a classmate of theirs at the private school Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides in Doulon, a police source told the AFP news agency.

The incident took place at 12.30pm (11.30am Irish time) and was stopped once teachers overpowered and disarmed the student.

France’s education minister, Élisabeth Borne, said on X that her and interior minister Bruno Retailleau will be travelling to the school.

The French president extended his “heartfelt thoughts” to the families of those injured, other students at the school and the broader educational community in France this evening.

“By their intervention, the teachers undoubtedly prevented further tragedies. Their courage commands respect,” Macron said on X.
