GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING THE murder of former garda John Kerins confirmed this afternoon that the post mortem on his body was completed at 12.45pm today.
It concluded that Kerins (49) received gunshot wounds to his upper body.
An incident room has been set up in Bailieboro Garda Station and the investigation is ongoing. Gardaí are still at the scene carrying out a forensic examination.
Gardaí are renewing their appeal to anybody that was in the Cornaveagh and the Canningstown area of Bailieboro between 5pm on Thursday 8 November and 8am on Friday 9 November who may have seen anything suspicious or out of the ordinary to contact the gardaí at Bailieboro at 042 9665102, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
It is understood the victim was medically discharged from An Garda Siochana several years ago and moved to the area. He had served in a number of specialist units in the force throughout his career.
It was reported today that Kerins was previously arrested and questioned over the disappearance of his neighbour Gerry Daly in 2011, and that he was also suspected of being involved in the drugs trade.

Look at the comments on threads regarding other people that were shot by drug gangs.
There are comments there by the dozen that are quiet tough and cold, certainly worse than any one of the deleted ones here.
Is is because this man was a Guard at one stage,that a differing approach is being taken. We all know the story with this man.

Hi folks – this is a new story, the gardaí sent out the information in the last hour that the post-mortem was concluded. While it was believed he had been shot, the post-mortem confirmed he was shot in the upper body.

Yes, but forensics and PM needed to check definitively cause of death whether self-inflicted or otherwise.
Please suspend comments on this . The poor man is not long dead. i know nothing about him nor the circumstances of his demise. Scrap the story . It is getting worse.
