Pics: Government publications sales office closes today

No more queues for tribunal reports or the latest CSO stats.

THE GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS Sales Office in Dublin is to close today following a decline in demand for hard copies of official publications.

The office on Molesworth Street has seen a major drop off in sales in recent years with Office of Public Works Minister Brian Hayes noting that the “nature of publishing has changed dramatically in recent years” when he announced the closure earlier in the month.

Sales revenue fell by over 50 per cent since 2008 with many sales of publications now coming through the OPW call centre and mail order services. The closure will save some €300,000 annually.

In years gone by everything from Dáil and Seanad debates to tribunal and special reports were available from the shop.

But its closure today will now deny photographers the chance to snap people queuing outside the office on the day that a major report is published such as when the Flood Tribunal issued its report in 2002:

Interestingly there is a marked increase in the amount and popularity of fake news directed toward liberal audiences.
Blatantly fabricated stories, articles featuring deceitful and hyperbolic headlines, viral memes that have a very tenuous connection to the truth and poorly sourced articles that use inaccurate visuals to draw readers. (COUGH)
    e.g.
The story about Melania Trump selling jewellery on the White House website and a story about a boy handcuffed at an airport due to Trump’s immigration ban which went viral. The actual photograph was from 2015 and involved a story from in Kentucky involving sheriff’s deputies handcuffing young students with learning disabilities:
    The end result :
more polarization, more segregation and stronger echo chambers.
    Fasten your seatbelts.

The same rural voters who voted for Obama last time. No one questioned their academic status then. They only made up only 17 percent of the electorate and generally vote Republican anyway.
    ‘Low level of education?’
Another false narrative. White men went 63 percent for Trump versus 31 percent for Clinton, and white women went 53-43 percent. Among college-educated whites, only 39 percent of men and 51 percent of women voted for Clinton.
In exit polls of 23 states from the primaries, all showed a higher median income for Trump supporters than the national average, around $70,000.
A Gallup study from August 2016 debunked the myth that uneducated voters voted for Trump and proved that on average, they do not have lower incomes than other Americans, nor are they more likely to be unemployed.
44 percent of Trump supporters have college degrees, according to exit polls.
Republican voters are generally wealthier than Democrat voters.

GOP voters are more likely to believe in sky fairies and that climate change is a hoax. Fact is, the poorest and lowest educated states in the US are all red. GOP states get far more federal handouts than Democratic states. The wealthiest and those with the highest levels of education are all blue, Alaska being an anomaly due to it’s tiny population and it’s vast oil fields. Are the percentages you’ve given for college educated whites out of the total number eligible to vote or of those that voted? Why have you completely ignored black voters in your answer? (insert republican black vote suppression joke here) and finally how did a Gallup study from August tell who voted for Trump in November? Also, by study did you mean poll?

The reason so many “Far-Right” are rising right now is because they actually “listen” to their own people. They listen to their hopes, fears, concerns and stand up for them and are not afraid to speak their minds for “fear of offending” or “not being politically correct”.

If Liberals and and Leftists are genuinely baffled as to why they’re losing and the Conservatives and Right-wing groups are in the rapid increase, then simply “look in the mirror”.

Wilders team didn’t the night tweeting opinion polls with the nationalists increasing the vote as the right wings websites started making this a news item. Apart from Rotterdam, the Netherlands will still vote with the main parties for a coalition. The biggest problem for wilders is that the PVC are becoming isolationists and will not be part of the winning coalition, despite any increase in seats (see SF).

You see it from the commenters here, completely unwilling to praise Trump/Farage/Le Pen/Wilders/Milo, always focusing on the message of being critical towards the media which portray them, spreading hatred towards liberals and Muslims and challenging the notions of reliability and stability of establishment candidates with very shaky assertions based on their alternative facts.

Anyway, your narrative above demonstrates that this fearfulness you mention can only thrive in an atmosphere where rational thought and a bit of perspective are absent, and finally where reality gets so blurred that people will actually make the following claims: “… allowing hordes more people of this crude faith to invade your country almost completely unvetted, … all other faiths don’t carry out wholesale slaughter of innocents from the adopted country …” None of which is actually happening you fool . . .
