Elderly man dies in Cork house fire

The fire occurred on the Main Street in Rathcormac early last night.

A MAN HAS died following a house fire in Rathcormac, county Cork last night.

The elderly victim was found dead at the Main Street property at about 7.45pm after a member of the public spotted the fire. His body was transferred to Cork University Hospital.

The scene has been preserved and fire brigade crew are still on site. A post mortem is due to be carried out on the man’s remains today.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

    Elderly people living alone are very vulnerable to accidents such as this. My own father has memory problems after a stroke and often forgets he has something on the stove .
