Mrs Brown's Christmas dinners: Hundreds to benefit from O'Carroll's donation

For the second year in a row, Brendan O’Carroll has donated turkey and ham vouchers to St Vincent de Paul in the Dublin region to help families this Christmas.

HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES in the Dublin area will benefit from a generous donation from the Mrs Brown creator and star Brendan O’Carroll to the St Vincent de Paul this Christmas.

O’Carroll has gifted hundreds of vouchers for turkey and ham to the Dublin region of the Society of St Vincent de Paul with families who may be struggling this festive season set to benefit.

The comedian has set up an arrangement so that the vouchers can be brought to Dunnes Stores and can be exchanged for a turkey and ham.

“He’s a bit reluctant about the arrangements but we’d estimate that over a thousand people will get turkey and ham. He did this last year as well, so it’s the second year he has done it which is great,” a spokesperson for SVP told TheJournal.ie.

Andy Doogue, President of the SVP Dublin Region thanked Brendan O’Carroll saying that the donation was “really generous” and ”given in an imaginative yet practical way”.

He added: “This year in particular we are receiving requests for food more than ever.  Our volunteers will ensure that families who are most in need will benefit from Brendan O’Carroll’s generosity.”

But by giving publicity its SVP that benefit because fans of his and people who just admire this act of sheer selflessness will be more likely to follow suit.. its to highlight a good cause not boost his own ego.. he hardly needs it, given Mrs. Brown was a hit here, is a gigantic hit in the U.K, and after christmas Mrs.Brown is getting her own gameshow. a lot of cynical thinking surrounding these kinds of things.. majority of the time its just genuine people with a bit of fame. fame that provides a means for them to do something like this. I wish i could, and hopefully i can some day!

The gesture won’t affect his sales and tours – he’s already successful! And if people don’t like his comedy they’re not going to buy the DVD or whatever simply because he’s done a nice thing! What a ridiculous thing to suggest! Why are people desperate to criticise celebrities so much? Can you not just be happy for him and then be grateful to people like him who give like this, afterall you may need this kind of help one day.
