HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE have attended a peace rally in Belfast city centre today in response to recent unrest over the decision to restrict the flying of the union flag at City Hall.
The peace campaigners from all sides of the community linked arms and formed a human chain around the building, which organiser Andrew Masters said sent out a powerful message of the desire for peace.
RTÉ News quotes Masters as saying: “We feel that this year has been in many ways incredibly positive… but what the past 10 days have shown us is that we have come so far we still have quite a journey ahead of us.”
At least 30 police officers have been injured in disorder which erupted during loyalist protests against the decision to reduce the number of days the union flag is flown over Belfast’s city hall.

I’m sure the homeless will really appreciate that.
As we stated, our artistic response is just one potential solution to the problem of empty spaces. Yes, they should be used to house homeless people. Yes, they should be to serve the community . Yes, they should be used as cheap office space for fledgling businesses. They are all valid solutions. The point is we need to start implementing these solutions now.
