Guys the layouts of both roundabouts have changed considerably in recent months and tbh it was inevitable that someone was to be hurt given the disregard for pedestrians who have to cross the roundabouts.
I feel for this mans family and pray that their will be no more accidents before the works are completed.

Agree 100%. The layout for pedestrians at the moment at these two roundabouts is very dangerous, particularly the very busy Sarsfield road one. That said I don’t know what the cause of this accident was and sincerest condolences to that poor man’s family.

The state of the roadworks there I’m not surprised. So sad especially this close to Christmas

The South Ring Road is a dual-carriageway i.e. no pedestrians allowed. Was it on that road or just the vicinity? I would have passed at that time but took the back road to avoid traffic instead. Condolences to the family.

Apart from at the roundabouts which have paths and lights to allow pedestrians cross.
The current reconfiguration of the road as the flyovers are being built is probably a contributing factor. Accident happened at the bandon road roundabout.

Ah. Forgot about that. Had imagined someone walking along the dual-carriageway. I go through the Bandon rd roundabout many times a day. The amount of cars that run the red lights is horrendous. Was crashed into by an uninsured driver there not so long ago. Saw a tractor and trailer do it just last week.

It didnt happen at the Bandon Road roundabout, as I drove through it after the accident. From what I could see, it happened sonewhere between both roundabouts. There is a footpath next to the new temporary dual carriageway between both roundabouts, this footpath used to be about 30ft from the road but not right next to it now and very badly lit, anyone could trip onto the road now. Poor man and his family. RIP

That’s really awful RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

At present, there are several traffic-light controlled pedestrian crossings on the N40 / South Link at the Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road Roundabouts.

There was a huge pedestrian / cycle bridge across that whole junction in Wilton. It was removed to facilitate the complete rebuild of the junction to remove the roundabouts.

Once that’s complete, the whole road from the tunnel mouth right through to the other side of Ballncollig will be completely free of junctions or any interaction with pedestrians i.e. pretty much motorway standard. Until then, it still has those two roundabouts / complex junctions at Bandon Road and Sarsfield Road which include pedestrian crossings.

I was behind the accident and I think he might have been walking across actual dual carriageway. Poor man
