HSE takes control of Mullross Nursing Home

The move comes after HIQA cancelled the provider’s registration.

THE HEALTH SERVICE Executive has today taken charge of Mullross Nursing Home in Leitrim following the cancellation of the provider’s registration.

The decision to revoke the licence from 4.30pm was taken by the Health Information and Quality Authority. It comes after Stephen Buckley contacted HIQA to notify it of his intention to cease trading in Carrick-on-Shannon.

There had been regular contact between the watchdog and the provider over outstanding issues from the last inspection report in May 2012, including the management of medicines, staffing problems, maintenance of records and complaints procedures.

Following several meetings, Buckley agreed to have his registration cancelled. The home will not close.

HIQA said it was acting in “the public interest and in the interest of the health, safety and quality of life of the residents”. It has asked the HSE to make alternative arrangements for the management of the nursing home as soon as practicable.

During this time, the Authority will maintain its statutory role in assessing the quality and safety of the services provided to the residents.

The residence, which was built in 1987 but made into a nursing home in 1995, has a capacity to house up to 30 people.

You obviously struck a cord somewhere, and they have you targetted… Can you remember which comment it was, that drove the FFG/Labour guys crazy, because, i have to admit i am jealous that no matter how many truths and facts i throw out, i am seeing more green thumbs than red… but when you do it, they are after you like a pack of vultures. try find the comment stream that drove them mad. Brilliant link…. “Optimists see: A glass half full. Pessimists see: A glass half empty. Chronic complainers see: A glass that is slightly chipped holding water that isn’t cold enough, probably because its tap water when I asked for bottled water and wait, there’s a smudge on the rim too, which means the glass wasn’t cleaned properly and now I’ll probably end up with some kind of virus—why do these things always happen to me?!”
