Video: British deputy prime minister Nick Clegg admits he owns a onesie

A damaging political revelation? Probably not.

IN WHAT MOST definitely is one of the most unusual if not embarrassing admissions by a senior politician, the British deputy prime minister Nick Clegg has admitted he owns a onesie.

During a unique radio phone-in show on LBC radio in London earlier today Clegg was asked whether he owned the all-in-one garment that is generally reserved for wearing while relaxing on the couch.

While most of the questions were critical of Clegg and his government’s policies this was one of the more light-hearted moments which drew this response from the Liberal Democrat leader:

It has since transpired that the caller who asked the question is an old party activist in Sheffield (Clegg’s constituency) Harry Matthews who was apparently once tipped as a future Prime Minister.

The Telegraph reports that the revelation raises the prospect that the question was planted in order to improve Clegg’s battered image though that claim may be called into question by the quality of the onesie itself:

Isn’t that the same lab that misread hundreds of samples leading to the women of Ireland dying. The same lab that the government knew had misread them and tried to cover it up. Great country!!!

It seems incredible that there’s only one lab in the whole of Ireland that can do these life saving test, specially as we have giant pharmaceuticals here ( I know there not the same ) but surely it would make sense.

@Colette Kearns: the reason there is only one lab who can do this is because the govt outsourced all this work in the late 2000s redeploying all the cervical screeners to other laboratories. They in effect got rid of the career of cervical screener in Ireland. It has taken until now to try and build back up these expertise. It’s takes years to train up to read these smears. It is highly specialised.

Can the HSE get anything right when it comes to womens health. How many more women have to die before things start to change.
