AN OIREACHTAS committee meeting on the fallout from the identification of horse meat in beef burgers has been delayed.
The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine was due to discuss the events next Tuesday with representatives from the Department of Agriculture and from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
In light of the latest developments in the incident, however – where one of the companies involved, ABP Food Group, says it has identified the source of the contamination – it has been decided to postpone the meeting.
An Oireachtas statement said the meeting would take place “at a later date where all information appropriate to a discussion with the Committee is available”.
The committee members – led by chairman Andrew Doyle (Fine Gael) – have been told that the appropriate officials and representatives will be on hand to “discuss the issues in a thorough fashion once the appropriate investigations are completed”.
