DRAMATIC VIDEO HAS captured the moment that a Turkish-Bulgarian politician was the subject of a botched assassination attempt in Sofia earlier today.
The video shows a man jumping on stage and pointing a gun at the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), Ahmet Dogan, as he was giving a speech during a party congress in the Bulgarian capital.
The gun appears to jam as the would-be assailant attempts to fire it before security guards jump in and drag the man to the ground, beating and kicking the attacker.

Dogan has led MRF for the last 25 years. The centrist party represents ethnic Turks and Muslims which make up about 12 per cent of Bulgaria’s over 7 million population, according to World Bulletin.

Don’t find the video shocking, the evil fecker tried to kill somebody, a few thumps an a kick or two are nothing compare to getting your brains splattered all over the place.
No paul, what I found shocking was the fact that a would be assassin was about to kill someone in front of 100′s of delegates and it was caught on film. The half arsed attempt of a hiding he got by a load of geriatrics doesn’t make the cut anymore.

My girlfriend is Bulgarian and from a town where this politician owns a 5 star hotel. The gunman is also a Turkish national living in Burgas and she’s hearing that this hole thing was a set-up.

Bulgarian friend of mine tells me it was a set up designed to galvanise support for his party. Politics in Bulgaria is ropey enough already, when you consider all the alleged mafia involvement, I wouldn’t be suprised if he’s right and this turns out to be a stunt.

Looks like your mate is right, Btv (Bulgarian news channel) are saying that the gun contained blanks and my gf (and her family and mates back home) are saying that the whole thing is just a PR stunt to rally a bit of support for his party. This is the same guy who pocketed millions when he won a contract to build a road around the cankov kamuk dam. When Bulgaria abandoned communism and adopted capitalism in ’89, the politicians that had the money to run for election were either in the mafia, or were funded by mafia. By all accounts, the older generation in Bulgaria actually preferred to live under communism. This guy would make bertie look like an alter boy

Most likely a purely criminal thing… seen as the majority of politicians in Bulgaria have ties to various mafia outfits.

Most attacks on Muslims in Europe and the US are perpetrated against people presumed to be Muslims on the basis of their colour and appearance. This is why many Sikhs and Hindus, for example, have been victims of mistaken identity.
The Sikhs and the Hindus get confused because Pakistanis (Punjabis) are Indian Muslims. Most Muslims do not look like Indians most are Arabs. Most Turks are fair. I know Indians who have been subjected to racism/mockery for being Indian/Hindu by Muslims/Arabs. My own brother who can be confused as Indian has received this before from Arabs in school. Were 25% Punjabi.

Most likely fake, Dogan was resigning and the party was somewhat failing, but when he’s near his resignation this happens, most likely fake as the turkish community will now get his vote and the elections are this year.

Some Bulgarian sources say the gun wasn’t real gun, but filled with 3 rounds: 2 signal / alarm rounds and 1 gas / pepper. So not sure what that supposed to be, either staged or guy wasn’t right in the head trying to kill him with that. Use google translate on this link:

There are reports that the ‘assassin’ was pointing a gas pistol at Mr Dogan. Had it gone off tear gas would have been fired, not a bullet..

Unacceptable response. Glad there’s video evidence to put all of the assaulters in prison. The gunman will be punished by the legal system, and the vigilantes must be also. This violent ‘discipline’ cannot be tolerated.
Come on, if it turns out to be real (which I doubt it is) and not a political stunt, a person who tries to murder someone in cold blood deserves at least the bit of a kicking he received.
The law does not allow for ‘a bit of a kicking’ though. This is for everybody’s good.
No it’s a completely reasonable response, I challenge anyone in a similar situation to not react like that. I wonder would you say the same thing if it was yourself on the end of an attempt. It’s easy to look at these videos from the security of our own homes and try and convince ourselves that we’d act different;y.
Everyone is innocent until proven guilty thus vigilantism should not be tolerated .
The mans guilt was proven by the clear as day attempt to shoot a man in the face , the Jury is in you’re guilty have a well deserved kick in the mush .
